The High River General Hospital is a hospital located at 560 9 Avenue Southwest, in High River, Alberta, Canada. The hospital is owned and operated by Alberta Health Services. The hospital was built in 1982, and was expanded in 2004. The fire alarm system was upgraded following the 2004 expansion.

System Specifications (2004-present)

FACP

The building is protected by an Edwards EST3 addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the maintenance office. The system runs Edwards’ Signature addressable protocol, and is configured for two-stage operation. The alert coding is 20BPM, and the alarm coding is temporal.

Annunciators

There are Edwards EST3-LCDANN annunciators at all nurse’s stations.

The cancer centre annunciator is equipped with the Edwards LCDXL1 display; all others are equipped with the standard display.

There is an Edwards EST3-6ANN annunciator in the main entrance vestibule.

Booster Panels

There is an Edwards BPS6A booster power supply located next to the main fire alarm panel.

Notification Appliances

Most notification appliances are Edwards MB10-24 motor bells (10” gong) mounted on Edwards 403-5A-R strobe plates (15cd).

Newly renovated areas have System Sensor SSM24-6A motor bells (6” gong) mounted on Edwards 403-5A-R strobe plates (15cd).

Some areas have Edwards 439D-10AWC vibrating bells (10" gong) mounted remotely; it is unknown if these are in use on the current system.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

All pull stations are EST SIGA-270P addressable two-stage single-action pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices

There are EST SIGA-PS addressable photoelectric smoke detectors throughout all corridors and in all patient rooms.

Some patient rooms and all elevator shafts have Edwards SIGA-PD addressable photoelectric smoke detectors as deficiency replacements.

Some areas mentioned above have Edwards SIGA-OSD addressable optical smoke detectors as deficiency replacements.

All other areas have Edwards SIGA-HRD or EST SIGA-HRS addressable 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors. There is a 75/25 mix of HRD to HRS throughout.

All aforementioned detectors are mounted on EST SIGA-SB bases.

There are EST SIGA-DH duct smoke detector housings with EST SIGA-PS addressable photoelectric heads and EST SIGA-SB bases on most air handling units: two on the second floor and one in the penthouse.

Modules

There are EST SIGA-CT1 addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system’s tamper and flow switches.

There are EST SIGA-CR addressable relay modules serving various purposes.

There is an EST SIGA-CRH addressable high-power relay module for primary elevator recall.

There are EST SIGA-IM addressable isolator modules on some SLCs.

EOLs

There are Edwards EOL-P1 end of line resistor plates on all sprinkler and signal circuits.
