Grey Nuns Community Hospital is an acute-care hospital located at 1100 Youville Dr NW, Edmonton, AB. It is operated by Alberta Health Services. The hospital was built in 1988, and the fire alarm system received a full upgrade in 2011.

System Specifications (2011-present)[edit | edit source]

FACP[edit | edit source]

The building is protected by an Edwards EST3 addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the main electrical room. The system runs EST’s Signature addressable protocol, and is configured for two-stage operation. The alert signal coding is 20BPM chime, followed by the evacuation signal, a 120BPM march time chime. The system also has voice-evac capabilities, and live "code red" announcements are made through the panel mic when alarms are activated.

Annunciators[edit | edit source]

There are EST 3-LCDANN LCD annunciators in the main entrance vestibule and in all nurses’ stations.

Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]

All notification appliances are EST “Genesis” G4RF-S7VM speaker/strobes (red, wall-mount, FIRE lettering, set to 15cd).

Initiating Devices[edit | edit source]

Pull Stations[edit | edit source]

All pull stations are EST SIGA-270P addressable two-stage single-action pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]

There are EST SIGA-PS addressable photoelectric smoke detectors throughout.

Some areas have EST SIGA-HRS addressable rate-of-rise/fixed temperature heat detectors.

All detectors are mounted on SIGA-SB bases.

There are also EST SIGA-SD addressable photoelectric duct smoke detectors on air handling units. There are also dry and wet sprinkler systems with waterflow detection.

Modules[edit | edit source]

There are EST SIGA-CT1 addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system’s tamper and flow switches.

There are also EST SIGA-CR control relay modules for shutting down the air handling system in an alarm condition.

EOLs[edit | edit source]

There are Edwards EOL-P1 end-of-line resistor plates on all sprinkler and signal circuits.
