The Fish Creek Recreation Complex houses Cardel Rec South, The Calgary Public Library, Bishop O'Byrne High School, and the Shawnessy YMCA. The building was built in 2002, and expanded in 2012. The current system is from 2012, but almost all original devices still remain.

It consists of Cardel Rec South, the Shawnessy Library, Bishop O'Byrne High School, and the Shawnessy YMCA. The facility was built in 2000, opened in 2002, and was expanded in 2012. The fire alarm panel and new wing system components are from 2012, while most devices in the 2002 portion remain original, with replacement parts being installed as deficiencies occur.


This system is currently being replaced with an Edwards EST4.  Stay tuned for information on the new system!

The building is protected by a Siemens FireFinder XLS addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the main electrical room, directly across from the women's pool locker room. The system runs Siemens' FirePrint addressable protocol, and is configured for two-stage operation. The alert coding is 20BPM, and the alarm coding is temporal.


The original control panel was a Cerberus Pyrotronics MXL, which was original from 2002.  It was upgraded to a Siemens Firefinder XLS in 2012, due to the expansion. It is set up in an addressable manner, with annunciators by every main entrance, and the panel is at the Cardel Ice (East) Entrance. The system is two-stage, and likely does slow march time in first stage, and code 3 in second stage.
The FireFinder XLS replaced the original Cerberus Pyrotronics MXL in 2012.

Unless otherwise mentioned, all notification appliances are Cerberus Pyrotronics MBDC-10 motor bells (10" gong) mounted on Wheelock RSSP-2475W strobe plates (75cd).


The main notification appliances in the 2002 area are Cerberus BDC-10 (rebranded Wheelock MB-G10-24) motor bells on Wheelock RSSP-24MCW strobe plates, rebranded by Cerberus Pyrotronics. The 2012 addition has Siemens SFM24-6 motor bells on Siemens ST-MC-RETRO-R-B (rebranded Wheelock RSSP-24CMW) strobe plates.
The following devices are installed as deficiency replacements:
* Siemens ST-MC-RETRO-R-B strobe plate (set to 15cd) with original bell in one hallway
* Siemens SFM24-10A motor bell (10" gong) on Wheelock RSSP-24MCW (set to 15cd) in the same hallway
* Mircom BL-10B motor bell (10" gong) on original strobe plate by child care entrance
* Siemens SFM24-10A motor bell (10" gong) on Siemens ST-MC-RETRO-R-B strobe plate (set to 15cd) by gym
