'''Holy Spirit School''' is a catholic elementary school in Downtown Cochrane, AB. The school was built in the 1955 as St. Andrew's School, hence why the lockers are in there. The school then underwent renovations in 1959, 1969 and 1989. The school went yet another renovation and started to be rented by CCSD in 1993, in which the school became Holy Spirit. The school has had two fire alarm systems in the past 28 years of operation, and there are two old, possibly original pull stations still intact from 1955, 1959 or 1969. The current fire alarm system has been in the school since 2014. In June 2021, a new school is going to be constructed to replace Holy Spirit. The school will be demolished in either 2022 or 2023. Simplex NimrodES will try his best to get alarms. The system is serviced and managed by Altex Security Systems.
'''Cochrane Christian Academy''' is a Christian K-8 school located at 129 Powell St, Downtown Cochrane, AB. It is operated by Rocky View Schools. The school was built in the 1955 as Andrew Sibbald School. The school then underwent renovations in 1959, 1969 and 1989. The school went yet another renovation, and expanded with portables in 1993 and started to be rented by Calgary Catholic School District, in which the school became Holy Spirit Catholic School, until 2022, when the school moved to a new location. The school was then renovated through 2022-2023, and the fire alarm system survived. The fire alarm system was partially upgraded in 2014, and one pull station is original.

The fire alarm panel is a Vigilant VS2 (rebranded EST iO500) installed in June 2014. Although this panel is addressable, the system is not set up in an addressable manner, as it replaced an EST 6616 (see below for more info). The panel is located at the front entrance. All strobes on the system are synchronized, and all horns do code-3.
The building is protected by a Vigilant VS2 hybrid-addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the main entrance vestibule. The system runs Vigilant's GSA addressable protocol, and the system coding is temporal.

The notification appliances inside are all EST "Genesis" G1R-HDVM (red, wall, no FIRE lettering) horn/strobes. In the hallways, most are on these cool custom trim plates for two horn/strobes each, facing each end, though some are on regular trim plates. There are some surface mounted, for example, in three classrooms (one which was new for 2014), and in the "time-in room". There is also one installed in the library, and there are two in the gymnasium on trim plates. They are all set to 15 candela, but can vary between low and high volume. For outdoor notification, there is an EST "Genesis" WG4RF-HVMC (red, FIRE lettering) horn/strobe pointed at the large field, under a protective cover. It is synchronized with the indoor horn/strobes as well. All of these horn/strobes were installed in 2014, replacing the bell/strobes.
All of the notification appliances are from EST's "Genesis" line of products.

All notification appliances inside are EST G1R-HDVM (red, wall, no FIRE lettering, set to 15cd) horn/strobes, mostly installed on two-device backboxes in the hallway. They are also installed remotely in some parts of the hallway, as well as in three classrooms and the library. In the end of the portables and in the gym, they are on G1TR trim plates.

The washrooms and "time in room" have EST G1R-VM (red, wall-mount, no FIRE lettering, set to 15cd) remote strobes.

==== Pull Stations ====
==== Pull Stations ====
The pull stations were kept from the previous system. They are all Edwards 270-SPO pull stations, mostly from 1993 when the 6616 was installed. However, there are two that are the first generation (classic shield, FIRE ALARM at top), installed in 1955, 1959 or 1969. One of which is located in the gymnasium and one is at the end of the school, near emergency exit and where the 6" bell/strobe was.
All pull stations are Edwards 270-SPO conventional pull stations. They were mostly installed with the 6616, however there is one original first-generation 270-SPO (Classic shield, FIRE ALARM) in the northernmost portable.

There is a current-generation 270-SPO at the end of the portables hallway, installed as a deficiency replacement sometime between 2015 and 2022.

The smoke detectors are EST SIGA2-PS addressable photoelectric smoke detectors installed in 2014. The heat detectors, however, are all Edwards 281B-PL rate-of-rise heat detectors that were kept from the EST 6616 (installed 1993). It is unknown why the heat detectors remained, as they were recalled.
There are EST SIGA2-PS addressable photoelectric smoke detectors, installed on SIGA-SB bases throughout the building.

The main indoor notification appliances were Wheelock MBS-G10-24 motor bell/strobes. They were only in the hallways and the gymnasium. A couple Wheelock bell/strobes broke down over the years, and the one by the kindergarten classroom and under a water fountain was replaced with an Edwards 439D-10AWC vibrating bell on an EST 403-5A-R Integrity strobe plate in the early 2000s. The bell/strobe at the end of the school and by the old 270-SPO was replaced with an Edwards 439D-6AWC vibrating bell on a Simplex 4903-9101 strobe plate with the strobe above the bell. The outdoor notification appliances were Edwards 439D-10AWC vibrating bells, one by the large field and one by the grade 1 entrance. Unlike the indoor 439Ds, these ones were installed in 1993. For some reason, the bells were not loud enough, and when they removed the outdoor bells, they only replaced one.
Most notification appliances were Wheelock MBS-G10-24 motor bell/strobes (10" gong, 1.5cd).

There was an Edwards 439D-10AWC vibrating bell (10" gong) on an EST "Integrity" 403-5A-R (15cd) strobe plate installed in the early 2000s as a deficiency replacement near the other common area.

In the northernmost portable, there was an Edwards 439D-6AWC vibrating bell (6" gong) on a Wheelock VLPS-24 strobe plate (1.5cd), with the strobe above the bell, likely installed as a deficiency replacement.

For outdoor notification, there were two Edwards 439D-10AWC vibrating bells (10" gong); one located by the large field and one facing the staff parking lot. These were installed with the 6616.

Cochrane Christian Academy is a Christian K-8 school located at 129 Powell St, Downtown Cochrane, AB.

System Specifications (2014-present)[edit | edit source]

FACP[edit | edit source]

The building is protected by a Vigilant VS2 hybrid-addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the main entrance vestibule. The system runs Vigilant's GSA addressable protocol, and the system coding is temporal.

This system replaced the EST 6616 in June 2014.

Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]

All of the notification appliances are from EST's "Genesis" line of products.

All notification appliances inside are EST G1R-HDVM (red, wall, no FIRE lettering, set to 15cd) horn/strobes, mostly installed on two-device backboxes in the hallway. They are also installed remotely in some parts of the hallway, as well as in three classrooms and the library. In the end of the portables and in the gym, they are on G1TR trim plates.

The washrooms and "time in room" have EST G1R-VM (red, wall-mount, no FIRE lettering, set to 15cd) remote strobes.

There is an EST GC-HDVM (white, ceiling-mount, no FIRE lettering, set to 30cd) horn/strobe in the 2018 portable.

For outdoor notification, there is an EST WG4RF-HVMC (red, FIRE lettering) weatherproof horn/strobe pointed at the large field, under a protective cover.

All of these horn/strobes were installed in 2014, replacing the bell/strobes.

Initiating Devices[edit | edit source]

Pull Stations[edit | edit source]

All pull stations are Edwards 270-SPO conventional pull stations. They were mostly installed with the 6616, however there is one original first-generation 270-SPO (Classic shield, FIRE ALARM) in the northernmost portable.

There is a current-generation 270-SPO at the end of the portables hallway, installed as a deficiency replacement sometime between 2015 and 2022.

Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]

There are EST SIGA2-PS addressable photoelectric smoke detectors, installed on SIGA-SB bases throughout the building.

Some areas have Edwards EC20RRU-3 conventional 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors. They were installed in 2020 replacing recalled Edwards 281C conventional 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors that were left over from the previous system.

There are also Edwards 6266C-001 conventional photoelectric duct smoke detectors in 6260B housings, located throughout the building behind the ceiling tiles, wired up to 6262B-001 test stations/alarm indicators. The building does not have a sprinkler system.

EOLs[edit | edit source]

There are Edwards EOL-P1 end-of-line resistors on the conventional zones and signal circuit.

FACP[edit | edit source]

The building was protected by an EST 6616 conventional fire alarm system. The panel was located in the main entrance vestibule. 7 zones were in use. The system coding was continuous.

It was replaced in 2014 with the Vigilant system as a lifecycle replacement.

Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]

Initiating Devices[edit | edit source]

Pull Stations[edit | edit source]

The pull stations were the Edwards 270-SPO pull stations. They were mostly installed with the 6616, however there is one original first-generation 270-SPO (Classic shield, FIRE ALARM) in a portable.

All of these pull stations are still in use on the current system.

Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]

There were Edwards 6250C ionization smoke detectors throughout.

Some areas had Edwards 281C 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors that were kept on the current system until 2020.

There were also Edwards 6266C-001 photoelectric duct smoke detectors in 6260B housings, located throughout the building behind the ceiling tiles, wired up to 6262B-001 test stations/alarm indicators; these remained.

EOLs[edit | edit source]

There were Edwards EOL-P1 end-of-line resistors on all circuits.
