'''Safeway''' is a chain of grocery stores. This location is located in Crowfoot, NW Calgary. The store was built in 1984, but the current system is from 2015. Only a few pull stations are original. The system has held up well, no troubles at all since August 2018. The store is currently undergoing renovations and possibly has a new fire alarm system as there are new notification appliances, a replaced pull station and two removed pull stations.

'''Safeway Canada''' is a chain of grocery stores. They are owned by Sobeys, and have locations across the country. This particular store is located at 99 Crowfoot Crescent NW Calgary, AB, and was built in 1984 as a Food For Less. It was re-opened in 1997 as Safeway and underwent major renovations in 2000 and 2020. The fire alarm system was installed during the renovation.
==System Specifications (2020-present)==
====FACP====
The building is protected by a Simplex 4100ES addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the main entrance vestibule, and is equipped with InfoAlarm Command Center. The CPU (4100-9212) was replaced in 2020, as the system was converted to be fully addressable when the renovations happened. The cabinet was kept, and was installed in 2015, as the system was conventional prior to renovations. The system runs Simplex’s IDNet addressable protocol, and the system coding is temporal.
====Notification Appliances====
All of the notification appliances are from Simplex’s “TrueAlert” line of products.

== System Specifications ==
Throughout the store, there are Simplex 4906-9127 horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, set to 15cd). They are in the former horn/strobes’ places, and some were installed in new locations for additional coverage.

==== FACP ====
In the low ceiling area with tables, there is a Simplex 4906-9101 remote strobe (red, wall-mount, set to 15cd), installed for visual coverage as the horn/strobe is not facing the tables.

The fire panel is a Simplex 4100ES InfoAlarm installed in 2015. It is in the left entrance where you get the carts. It replaced an older 1980s-90s Edwards 6616, possibly after a CPU fail. Despite the panel being addressable, the system is set up in a non-addressable manner. The panel has 16 zones. The store is currently getting renovated and includes the part with the 4100ES panel, so the 4100ES may or may not be replaced during these renovations.
For exterior notification, there is a Simplex 4906-9105 weatherproof remote strobe (red, wall-mount, set to 75cd) outside the main entrance.

==== Notification Appliances ====
All of these horn/strobes and strobes were installed in spring-summer 2020, replacing EST “PowerSaver Integrity” horn/strobes, see below for more information.
===Initiating Devices===
====Pull Stations====
All of the pull stations are Simplex 4099-9004 addressable single-action pull stations. They are installed in all the former pull stations’ spaces, and replaced a mix of conventional pull stations to make the system addressable.
====Automatic Detection Devices====
There are most likely Simplex 4098-9734 addressable fixed/rate-of-rise heat detectors installed. The storefront is protected by waterflow.
====Modules====
There are Simplex 4090-9001 addressable monitor modules monitoring the system's sprinkler flow switches and tamper switches.
==== EOLs ====
There are Simplex 2081-9040C end-of-line resistors on all sprinkler and signal circuits.

Most of the notification appliances are Simplex "TrueAlert" 4906-9127 (red, wall) horn/strobes, installed in late June-early July 2020. They replaced EST 757H-15PS "PowerSaver" Integrity horn/strobes from the early 2000s. Some TrueAlerts have been installed in new locations, such as the wall by the pharmacy. A new Simplex TrueAlert 4906-9101 (red, wall) remote strobe has been installed in the tables.
The 4100ES replaced an Edwards 6616 in 2015 after a main board failure.

At the east entrance, there were two Edwards 275-C111 conventional pull stations, installed in 1990.

This store has a great variety of pull stations, due to the age of the store and number of pulls that were defective. There are two Edwards 275-C111 pulls by the right entrance, possibly original. The left entrance where the panel is, there was a Simplex MS-301C pull station on the left of the doors, possibly installed in the early-mid 2000s replacing an Edwards pull, but it was removed in June-July 2020. There are two Tyco/Grinnell rebranded Notifier MPS-950B pulls, one in the backroom and one by the juice, in which that one replaced a Notifier MPS-950B in 2018, and the backroom one has been removed as of July 4, 2020. There is an Edwards 270-SPO in the backroom as well, unknown if original as the logo is hard to see from the backroom doors, the only non "tab" pull station. There is a Mircom MS-401 installed in 2018 at the backroom doors where you can see the 270-SPO, but as of July 13, 2020 the MS-401 was removed. It replaced a Tyco/Grinnell pull. <br>
The backroom had one Edwards 270-SPO conventional pull station.
The Simplex MS-301C pull station was replaced with a Simplex 4099-9004 addressable pull station in late June-early July 2020, and the Tyco/Grinnell pull in the backroom has been removed. All of the other pull stations remain. <br>
As of July 13, 2020, the Mircom MS-401 has been removed, and one 275-C111 is slightly pulled. <br>
As of August 1, 2020, both backroom pulls (Edwards 270-SPO and Tyco/Grinnell MS-401) have been replaced with Simplex 4099-9004 pulls. The Tyco/Grinnell MS-401 by the juice has been removed.
As of August 16, 2020, all pull stations have been replaced with Simplex 4099-9004.

==== Automatic Detection Devices ====
The following pull stations were installed as deficiency replacements:
* Simplex MS-301C conventional pull station at main entrance

Though there are heat and smoke detectors, it is unknown what they are.
*Mircom MS-401 conventional pull station at backroom doors near Aisle 6, replaced Tyco/Grinnell MS-401 in 2018
*Tyco/Grinnell MS-401GR by juice, replaced Notifier MPS-950B in 2018

Safeway Canada is a chain of grocery stores.

System Specifications (2020-present)[edit | edit source]

FACP[edit | edit source]

The building is protected by a Simplex 4100ES addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the main entrance vestibule, and is equipped with InfoAlarm Command Center. The CPU (4100-9212) was replaced in 2020, as the system was converted to be fully addressable when the renovations happened. The cabinet was kept, and was installed in 2015, as the system was conventional prior to renovations. The system runs Simplex’s IDNet addressable protocol, and the system coding is temporal.

Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]

All of the notification appliances are from Simplex’s “TrueAlert” line of products.

Pull Stations[edit | edit source]

Due to the age of the store and the amount of deficiency replacements, there was a wide variety of pull stations.

Most pull stations were Tyco/Grinnell MS-401GR conventional pull stations. These were mostly in the backroom, and one was by the juice; this one was a deficiency replacement.

At the east entrance, there were two Edwards 275-C111 conventional pull stations, installed in 1990.

The backroom had one Edwards 270-SPO conventional pull station.

The following pull stations were installed as deficiency replacements:

  • Simplex MS-301C conventional pull station at main entrance
