'''CF Market Mall''' is one of the largest malls in Calgary, Alberta. It is located in Varsity, NW Calgary. The mall was built in 1971, majorly expanded in 1987-88, and again in 2004. The fire alarm system is from 2004 after that major expansion. The fire alarm here reportedly goes off frequently.
'''CF Market Mall''' is a large mall located at 3625 Shaganappi Trail NW, Calgary, AB. It is a one-level shopping centre, with the anchor stores being Hudson’s Bay (which is two floors), Sport Chek, Safeway, among others. The mall is owned by Cadillac Fairview. It was built in 1971, and was expanded in 1988. The mall then underwent an expansion and major renovation in 2004, and the fire alarm system was installed during this facelift.
== System Specifications (2004-present) ==
==== FACP ====
The building is protected by an Edwards EST3 hybrid-addressable fire alarm system. The system is a network with several nodes, the main node is in the security office; this one is equipped with a 3-REMICA microphone. An additional panel is located in the Safeway entrance vestibule. The system runs EST’s Signature addressable protocol, and is configured for two-stage operation. The alert signal coding is 20BPM, and the alarm signal is temporal.

Prior to 2021, one of the NACs was set to continuous for the evacuation signal.
===== Annunciators =====
There are Edwards EST3-LCDANN LCD annunciators located in most entrances.
==== Notification Appliances ====
Most notification appliances are from EST's "Integrity" line of products.
===== Main Mall Corridors =====
All corridor notification appliances are EST 757-7A-TW horn/strobes (white, wall-mount, 15/75cd) and 757-1A-TW horns (white, ceiling-mount), mounted in a pattern of horn/strobe, horn, horn/strobe, horn.

== System Specifications ==
The horn/strobes have the standard LKW-1 lenses, but are on the ceilings.
===== Tenants =====
The tenants mostly contain an EST 757-7A-TW horn/strobe (white, wall-mount, 15/75cd). A couple tenants have them fitted with LKC-1 lenses.

==== FACP ====
Some tenants contain EST 757-7A-T horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, 15/75cd).

Other tenants contain EST 757-5A-T (red, wall-mount, 15cd) or 757-7A-TW (white, wall-mount, 15cd) horn/strobes as deficiency replacements.

They are mostly mounted on the ceilings, but some have them on the walls.
===== Toys R Us (now Decathlon) =====
The notification appliances were left untouched during the upgrades in 2004, and were Edwards 882-2B horns (red, wall-mount).

This mall is protected by a networked two-stage EST3 addressable fire alarm system. The panels were installed in 2004, after a major expansion, replacing the Edwards 6500 panels from the 1988 expansion. Annunciators are seen at every entrance, though most panels are not visible, there is one in the entrance of Safeway. One panel has a voice evacuation mic, connected to the mall's public address system. When the mic is activated, the panel silences all horns but keeps the strobes flashing as someone pages. When the system goes off in first stage, the panel makes all horns do 20BPM march time, with 3 second blasts. When in general alarm, the panel makes the integrity horn/strobes and horns do code-3, and the non-Integrity horns on continuous. There are some times where the panel goes from code 3 to march time to code 3 to march time. Unlike a lot of malls, the entire building is covered by the EST3.
They were installed in 1992 when the store opened, the panel at the time was an Edwards 6500. As of January 2024, the space is now a Decathlon store, and these horns do not exist anymore.

===== Annunciators =====
There are now Edwards 757-7A-T horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, 15/75cd) suspended from the ceiling.
===== Safeway =====
The notification appliances were redone in 2020, most likely for uniform sound.

At every entrance, there is an EST 3-LCDANN annunciator.
They are Edwards 757-7A-T horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, 15/75cd), which replaced System Sensor “SpectrAlert” P241575A horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, 15/75cd). These were set to continuous electromechanical horn, and were installed in 2001 during the renovation of this store.

==== Notification Appliances ====
There is an EST 757-7A-TW horn/strobe on the ceiling in the hallway to the mall, which was the only device not replaced.
===== Exterior =====
Most outdoor notification appliances are EST CS405-7A-T weatherproof remote strobes (red, 15/75cd) , on three sides of the building. There is also one outside Safeway, installed in 2020 replacing a System Sensor “SpectrAlert” S1224MCKA (red, wall-mount, multi-candela) weatherproof remote strobe.

The main notification appliances are EST "Integrity" 757-7A-TW (15/75cd, white) horn/strobes and EST "Integrity" 757-1A-TW (white) horns. In the hallways, they are on the ceiling, with the horn/strobes having LKW-1 (wall FIRE orientation), and in a pattern of horn/strobe, horn, horn/strobe, horn. In the tenants, there are mainly EST 757-7A-TW horn/strobes on the ceiling, but some are on the wall. Some stores have EST "Integrity" 757-7A-T (15/75cd, red) horn/strobes, either on the wall or ceiling, again with LKW-1 lenses. These horns and horn/strobes are set to high volume, code-3. These horns and horn/strobes were installed in 2004. The Toys 'R' Us was added in the 1988, and has the original Edwards 882-2B horns that do continuous in full alarm. These are the only notification appliances to remain when the mall was expanded. The Safeway is the most diverse, having System Sensor "SpectrAlert" P1224MC (red, wall) horn/strobes set do high volume, electromechanical continuous. These were installed in 2004 when the Safeway was added, and it is unknown why these horn/strobes are there, but there is a 757-7A-TW in the entrance of it from the mall. In the parkade and in the parkade hallways, there are EST "Integrity" 757-5A-T (15cd) horn/strobes on the wall, but a few on the ceiling in some hallways, again installed in 2004. There are outdoor notification appliances, although they are hardly noticeable. Most of the outdoor notification appliances are EST CS405-7A-T "Enhanced Integrity" weatherproof strobes. One side of the building has an EST 757-1A-T "Integrity" remote horn. Areas that are not exposed to the open have EST 757-7A-T "Integrity" horn/strobes. Outside the Safeway, there is a System Sensor "SpectrAlert" S1224MCK (red, wall) weatherproof strobe. All of these outdoor notification appliances were installed in 2004. All strobes (EST & System Sensor) are synchronized, but all horns are independent. <br> Throughout the mall, you can find Edwards 881-D fire horns, but they are painted over and disconnected. They were installed in 1987 and 1988.
In the covered areas, such as the loading docks, there are EST 757-7A-T horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, 15/75cd).

One side of the mall has an EST 757-1A-T remote horn (red) by a loading dock.

==== Pull Stations ====
Most pull stations are EST SIGA-270P addressable two-stage pull stations. Newer variants can be found as deficiency replacements.
There are Edwards 270-GAO conventional two-stage pull stations near Decathlon, installed in 1988.
There is one Edwards 270P-SPO conventional two-stage pull station installed as a deficiency replacement for an original Edwards 270-GAO.
In the Safeway, there are Edwards 270P-SPO conventional two-stage pull stations, installed in 2021 replacing Grinnell MS-402GR two-stage conventional pull stations.
==== Automatic Detection Devices ====
Most of the mall is protected by waterflow, however there have been a few EST SIGA-PS addressable photoelectric smoke detectors spotted in open ceilings, and at tops of stairwells.
Newer tenants contain Edwards SIGA-PD addressable photoelectric smoke detectors.
Some areas have EST SIGA-HRS addressable fixed temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors.

==== Pull Stations ====
All detectors are mounted on SIGA-SB bases.

The area near Toys R Us has Edwards 281C conventional fixed temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors.
==== Modules ====
There are EST SIGA-CT1 addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system's flow and tamper switches.

The pull stations are mostly EST SIGA-270P addressable two-stage pull stations, installed in 2004. There are some that have been replaced with GE EST or current generation variants. By the Toys R Us and in it as well, as well as some other parts of the 1988 expansion, there are Edwards 270-GAO two-stage pull stations most likely installed in 1988 (although they do have the 1990s look). In the original wing however, remains one original Edwards 270-GAO that was installed in 1971 (classic E shield, no FIRE ALARM)! The Safeway however, has Grinnell-rebranded Notifier MPS-950KB two-stage pull stations, again on the EST3 system.
There are EST SIGA-CR addressable relays serving various purposes.
==== EOLs ====
There are Edwards EOL-P1 end-of-line resistors on all sprinkler and signal circuits, as well as all conventional zones.
=== Sequence of Operation ===
The horn/strobes are used for signaling. The system is not equipped with voice-evacuation, but when the microphone is keyed, the horns are silenced, the strobes continue flashing, and the mic feed will go through the mall's PA system.

An activated device will start the alert signal throughout the mall. If the system is not acknowledged after 5 minutes or if a keyswitch is activated, a mall-wide evacuation is initiated.
