'''Safeway Canada''' is a chain of grocery stores. They are owned by Sobeys, and have locations across the country. This particular store is located at 99 Crowfoot Crescent NW Calgary, AB, and was built in 1984 as a Food For Less. It was re-opened in 1997 as Safeway and underwent major renovations in 2000 and 2020. The fire alarm system was installed during the renovation.
==System Specifications (2020-present)==
====FACP====
The building is protected by a Simplex 4100ES addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the main entrance vestibule, and is equipped with InfoAlarm Command Center. The CPU (4100-9212) was replaced in 2020, as the system was converted to be fully addressable when the renovations happened. The cabinet was kept, and was installed in 2015, as the system was conventional prior to renovations. The system runs Simplex’s IDNet addressable protocol, and the system coding is temporal.
====Notification Appliances====
All of the notification appliances are from Simplex’s “TrueAlert” line of products.

== System Specifications ==
Throughout the store, there are Simplex 4906-9127 horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, set to 15cd). They are in the former horn/strobes’ places, and some were installed in new locations for additional coverage.

==== FACP ====
In the low ceiling area with tables, there is a Simplex 4906-9101 remote strobe (red, wall-mount, set to 15cd), installed for visual coverage as the horn/strobe is not facing the tables.

The new fire alarm control panel is a Simplex 4007ES/4010ES or an addressable 4100ES. It was installed in August 2020, replacing a conventional Simplex 4100ES InfoAlarm during renovations.
For exterior notification, there is a Simplex 4906-9105 weatherproof remote strobe (red, wall-mount, set to 75cd) outside the main entrance.

==== Notification Appliances ====
All of these horn/strobes and strobes were installed in spring-summer 2020, replacing EST “PowerSaver Integrity” horn/strobes, see below for more information.

The store was protected by a Simplex 4100ES conventional fire alarm system. The panel was located in the main entrance vestibule, and was equipped with InfoAlarm Command Center. The system had 16 zones in use. The system coding was continuous; the horn/strobes were self-coded to temporal and self-synchronized. The system was replaced in 2020 to be fully addressable, and the cabinet was kept as the control unit was only replaced.

All of the notification appliances are new Simplex "TrueAlert" 4906-9127 (red, wall, SmartSync) horn/strobes. They replaced EST PowerSaver Integrity horn/strobes from the previous system. Some have been installed in new locations, such as the wall at the front of the store, and the wall by the pharmacy, as well as one pointing towards the produce. By the tables, there's a new Simplex "TrueAlert" 4906-9101 (red, wall) remote strobe. Outside, there is a recently installed Simplex "TrueAlert" 4906-9105 (red, wall) weatherproof remote strobe by the left renovated entrance.
The 4100ES replaced an Edwards 6616 in 2015 after a main board failure.
====Notification Appliances====
All notification appliances were EST “PowerSaver Integrity” 757H-15PS horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, 15cd). They were installed in 2000 following the conversion to Safeway. By produce, there was a backbox that was off the wall and hanging. The horn/strobes were all replaced in 2020.

The fire panel was a Simplex 4100ES InfoAlarm installed in 2015. It replaced an 1990s Edwards 6616, possibly after a CPU fail. Despite the panel being addressable, the system is set up in a non-addressable manner. The panel has 16 zones. The store is currently getting renovated and includes the part with the 4100ES panel, so it was replaced with an addressable Simplex panel in August 2020.

==== Notification Appliances ====

Most of the notification appliances were EST 757H-15PS "PowerSaver" Integrity horn/strobes from the early 2000s. They were kept from the Edwards 6616 system, and they likely replaced older Edwards horn/strobes. All of these horn/strobes were replaced with Simplex TrueAlert horn/strobes in July 2020.

==== Pull Stations ====

This store had a great variety of pull stations, due to the age of the store and number of pulls that were defective. There were two Edwards 275-C111 pulls by the right entrance, possibly original. The left entrance where the panel is, there was a Simplex MS-301C pull station on the left of the doors, possibly installed in the early-mid 2000s replacing an Edwards pull. There were two Tyco/Grinnell rebranded Notifier MPS-950B pulls, one in the backroom and one by the juice, in which that one replaced a Notifier MPS-950B in 2018. There was an Edwards 270-SPO in the backroom as well, unknown if original as the logo is hard to see from the backroom doors, the only non "tab" pull station. There was a Mircom MS-401 installed in 2018 at the backroom doors where you can see the 270-SPO. It replaced a Tyco/Grinnell pull.

==== Automatic Detection Devices ====

Though there are heat and smoke detectors, it is unknown what they are.

Safeway Canada is a chain of grocery stores.

System Specifications (2020-present)[edit | edit source]

FACP[edit | edit source]

The building is protected by a Simplex 4100ES addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the main entrance vestibule, and is equipped with InfoAlarm Command Center.
