It was built in and opened in 1987, and was the first covered speed skating track in North America. Most of the system is original, except for the panel and the strobes installed later. The evacuation signal is a slow whoop tone, followed by the default Simplex male message. The 4100ES replaced a 4100U in 2019, which in turn replaced the original 2120 in 2007.
The system is part of a campus-wide network.
