The '''Scotiabank Saddledome''' is an indoor arena in SE Calgary, near Stampede Park. It is home of the Calgary Hitmen, the Calgary Flames, and the Calgary Roughnecks. It was built in 1983 as the Olympic Saddledome from 1983 to 1995, Canadian Airlines Saddledome from 1995-2000, the Pengrowth Saddledome from 2000-2010, and finally its current name since October 2010. The current system is from late June 2013 after the Calgary floods in 2013. There are also lots of old goodies on this system!

The '''Scotiabank Saddledome''' is a 19,289 seat arena located at 555 Saddledome Rise SE, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The arena is home to the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League. The Calgary Wranglers of the American Hockey League, the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League, and the Calgary Roughnecks of the National Lacrosse League. The arena was built in 1983, and underwent a renovation in 1994. The fire alarm system is mostly original, however the system was partially upgraded following the 2013 floods.

==== Panel ====
The storage and electrical rooms on the club level have FDD CR-135 conventional 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors.
The current panel is an EST3 installed in June 2013, after an older EST3 was damaged by the water, and before that replaced an Edwards 8500 EVAC from 1983. The panel has a fire phone, and a voice evac mic also used for general paging! It is located under the first deck, by the loading dock and where the Zamboni comes out. The system is two-stage, and is voice evac according to some managers. The EST3 prior to the one now had a chime on march time as general alarm.

==== Notification Appliances ====
The mechanical rooms likely have FDD CF-200 conventional 200°F fixed-temperature heat detectors.
The main notification appliance in the hallways and some areas of the seating bowl are very rare Edwards/GS Adaptatone 5547-15R re-entrant speakers made by Atlas. Most of these speakers are original from 1983, but some are from the 1990s. The concourse and club level and suites have Enforcer ceiling speakers normally seen as paging speakers in stores, installed in 1994. One has been replaced with an EST 965-1A-8RW ceiling speaker. There are also EST Genesis G1-HDVM (white, wall, no FIRE) horn/strobes down in the event level and where the panel is installed in 2013, possibly replacing Adaptahorns from 1983 that were damaged. The arena itself has Atlas GA-30T paging horns for fire alarm use, original from 1983. They are hanging from the catwalk.

==== Pull Stations ====
==== EOLs ====
The pull stations are mainly Edwards 270-GAOs from 1983. Some have their "PULL IN CASE OF FIRE" painted over, and some have been replaced with many varients from 1983-1990s. The concourse has 270-GAOs from 1994, some replaced. Other replacement pulls are EST SIGA-270P pulls from 2000s onwards, mostly from 2013 in the lower parts due to flooding. There has been a recently installed SIGA-270P by the East Entrance.
There are Edwards EOL-P1 end-of-line resistor plates on all circuits.

None noticed, probably due to flame cannons in arena so that it doesn't go off.

The Scotiabank Saddledome is a 19,289 seat arena located at 555 Saddledome Rise SE, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The Saddledome as seen in the Evening

A new arena, known as Scotia Place, is currently being constructed to replace the Saddledome. The new arena is scheduled to open in 2027; the Saddledome will be demolished shortly after. Fire Alarmpedia staff are predicting Scotia Place will have an Edwards EST4 system.

System Specifications (1983-present)

FACP

The building is protected by an Edwards EST3 hybrid-addressable fire alarm system. This a networked system with 4 or more nodes;

  • CACF Room (Main Node)
  • Security Desk at Loading Dock
  • Ice Resurfacer Entrance (Auxiliary Panel)

The system runs Edwards' Signature addressable protocol, is configured for two-stage operation, and is equipped with voice evacuation. The alarm sequence has been the same since the 6500: alert signal is a 20BPM chime, followed by a 120BPM march time chime for the alarm signal. There are pre-recorded messages for each stage.

The EST3 was installed in 2013, replacing a variant that was destroyed from the floods, which in turn replaced the original Edwards 6500 EVAC in 2006. The 6500 cabinets remain.

Notification Appliances

Event Level/Main Concourse (1983)

All audible notification appliances are Atlas Sound "Voice Tone" VT-152 re-entrant speakers (red, ceiling-mounted, 25V). These are located on the ceiling, throughout the concourse and event level; most units are original.

The event level has Edwards “Genesis” G1-VM remote strobes (white, wall-mount, no lettering, set to 15cd) installed in 2013.

Club Level Concourse (1994) & Terrace (1983)

All notification appliances are Edwards 964-1A-8RW remote speakers (white, ceiling-mount, 8", Canadian grill).

Seating Bowl

There are Edwards 6703-25 high-output horn speakers on the catwalk, facing the seating bowls.

At each corner of the building, at the top of the stairwells, there are Atlas Sound VT-152 remote speakers (red, ceiling-mount).

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

Most pull stations are the original Edwards 270-GAO conventional two-stage single-action pull stations; the club level concourse has variants installed in 1994. There can be all kinds of variants of the 270-GAO found at some exits as deficiency replacements over the years.

The club level plus some areas of the main concourse have EST SIGA-270P addressable two-stage single-action pull stations; it is likely that an additional SLC is run to accommodate these devices.

The event level has Edwards/GE 270-GAO conventional two-stage single-action pull stations, installed as deficiency replacements following the 2013 floods.

Automatic Detection Devices

There are System Sensor 5601A conventional 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors at the top of each stairwell.

The storage and electrical rooms on the club level have FDD CR-135 conventional 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors.

The mechanical rooms likely have FDD CF-200 conventional 200°F fixed-temperature heat detectors.

Firefighter's Telephones

There are Edwards 6702-0211 firefighter's telephones located throughout the facility, monitored by EST SIGA-CC1 addressable control modules.

EOLs

There are Edwards EOL-P1 end-of-line resistor plates on all circuits.
