The Calgary City Centre Building is an office building located at 215 2 Street Southwest, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The building is owned and operated by Cadillac Fairview. The building opened in 2017, and the fire alarm system is original excluding deficiency replacements.

System Specifications[edit | edit source]

FACP[edit | edit source]

The building is protected by an Edwards EST3 addressable fire alarm system. This is a networked system; the main node is located in the CACF room on the main floor, with transponders in the security office and electrical rooms on some floors. The system runs Edwards’ Signature addressable protocol, and is equipped with voice evacuation. The system is configured for two-stage operation. The alert signal is a 20BPM 1kHz tone plus a standby message, and the evacuation signal is a temporal bell tone plus an evacuation message.

FACP Accessories[edit | edit source]

There is an Edwards “FireWorks” graphic computer in the CACF room.

Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]

Most public areas have Edwards 965-3A-8SW speaker/strobes (white, ceiling-mount, 70V, 8” square, 30cd).

All service corridors and the parkade have Edwards “Integrity” 757-3A-SS70 speaker/strobes (red, wall-mount, 70V, 30cd).

The main lobby has Simplex “TrueAlert” 4902-9721 remote speakers, custom painted black, along with Edwards 202-8A-T remote strobes, also custom-painted black (110cd).

Areas requiring additional sound coverage have Edwards 965-1A-8SW remote speakers (white, ceiling-mount, 70V, 8” square).

Initiating Devices[edit | edit source]

Pull Stations[edit | edit source]

All pull stations are EST SIGA-270P addressable two-stage single-action pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]

There are EST SIGA2-PS addressable photoelectric smoke detectors in the elevator lobbies, telecom and electrical rooms of every floor, and in all stairwells.

Some areas have Edwards SIGA-PD addressable photoelectric smoke detectors as deficiency replacements.

There are EST SIGA2-HRS addressable fixed/rate-of-rise heat detectors at the top of all elevator shafts.

All detectors are mounted on EST SIGA-SB bases.

There are EST “SuperDuct” SIGA-SD addressable photoelectric duct smoke detectors on most air handling units.

Modules[edit | edit source]

There are EST SIGA-CT1 addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system’s tamper and flow switches.

There are EST SIGA-CR addressable relay modules serving various purposes throughout the building.

There are EST SIGA-IM isolator modules on all SLC loops.

There are EST SIGA-CC1 addressable control modules for fire phones.

Firefighter's Telephones[edit | edit source]

There are Edwards 6830-4 firefigher's telephones on all floors.

EOLs[edit | edit source]

There are Edwards EOL-P1 end of line resistor plates on all sprinkler and signal circuits.

Sequence of Operations[edit | edit source]

This system is configured for floor-by-floor two-stage operation. A first stage alarm initiated on any floor sends the alarm floor, plus the floors directly above and below into evac, and all other floors into alert. If the system is not acknowledged in 5 minutes, the entire building goes into evac. A second stage keyswitch automatically evacuates the entire building.
