The building is protected by a Simplex 4100ES addressable fire alarm system. The system is networked with several nodes; one panel is at the 97 St Entrance. The system runs Simplex’s IDNet addressable protocol, and is equipped with voice-evacuation. The system is configured for two stage operation; the tones and/or messages are unknown at this time.

Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]

All Simplex notification appliances are from their “TrueAlert” line of products.

Common Areas[edit | edit source]

All common area notification appliances are Simplex 4906-9157 speaker/strobes (white, ceiling-mount, set to 30cd).
There are Simplex 4902-9721CA speakers (ceiling-mount) for additional coverage.

Other areas have Simplex 4906-9153 speaker/strobes (white, wall-mount, set to 15cd).

Human History Hall & Natural History Hall[edit | edit source]

The audible notification appliances in these two halls are TOA PE-304BU ULC-listed speakers (black, pendant-mount). These were chosen to blend into the ceiling.
The visual notification appliances are Simplex 4906-9103 remote strobes (white, wall-mount, set to 15cd) on poles.
The entrance vestibules to these halls contain Simplex 4902-9721CA speakers (ceiling-mount).

Childrens’ Gallery[edit | edit source]

The lower ceiling areas have TOA PC-580RU ULC-listed speakers (ceiling-mount) and Simplex 4906-9104 remote strobes (white, ceiling-mount, set to 15cd).
The open ceiling area has TOA PE-304WU ULC-listed speakers (white, pendant-mount).

Bug Gallery[edit | edit source]

Most notification appliances are TOA PC-580RU ULC-listed speakers (ceiling-mount) and Simplex 4906-9104 remote strobes (white, ceiling-mount, set to 15cd).
The lower ceiling areas have Simplex 4906-9157 speaker/strobes (white, ceiling-mount, set to 15cd) and Simplex 4902-9721CA speakers (ceiling-mount) for more audible coverage.

Initiating Devices[edit | edit source]

Pull Stations[edit | edit source]

All pull stations are Simplex 4099-9004CA addressable two-stage pull stations. Some of these are mounted behind Stopper II covers.

Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]

There are Simplex 4098-9714 addressable photoelectric smoke detectors throughout the building.
Some areas not open to public, such as the mechanical rooms, have Simplex 4098-9733 addressable 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors.
All above detectors are from Simplex's "TrueAlarm" line, and are mounted on 4098-9792 bases.
There are Simplex “VESDA” 4098-VES-A00-P addressable aspirating smoke detectors (LEDs, 4-pipes) in some areas, these are not visible. These run VESDAnet between each other.
The upper level’s open areas have System Sensor OSI-RA-SS conventional reflective beam smoke detectors, wired to 4090-9001 addressable modules.

Modules[edit | edit source]

There are Simplex 4090-9001 addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system’s tamper and flow switches.
There are Simplex 4090-9002 addressable relays serving various purposes.

There are Simplex 4090-9116 addressable IDNet isolator modules on the SLCs.
