Chaparral School is an elementary school located in the neighborhood of Chaparral, SE. It is part of the Calgary Board of Education. This school has 12 classrooms, but has been expanded with 8 portable classrooms added on. It has a capacity for 400 students, but is well over capacity at the time. The school was built in 2006 and has its original fire alarm system.

System Specifications

FACP

The fire alarm control panel is an EST QuickStart QS1, original to the school from 2006. There is an annunciator at the front entrance, but the main panel is not visible; it's in the gymnasium data room.

Notification Appliances

All of the indoor notification appliances are EST Genesis G1R-HDVM (red, wall, no FIRE marking) horn/strobes throughout, all original from 2006. Outside the entrance, there is an EST Integrity 757-7A-T horn/strobe, but it has a Genesis horn behind it, and not the regular integrity horn surprisingly. The strobe is still functional despite the different horn. This was probably done because the building owner may have requested the same sound of the alarm inside, but there was no weatherproof Genesis devices at the time, so they had no other choice but to do that.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

All of the pull stations in this school are EST SIGA-278 dual-action pull stations, original from 2006. This is one of the rare places to have these types of pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices

The smoke detectors are EST SIGA-PS photoelectric smoke detectors. The 8 portable classrooms have Edwards 280-PL mechanical fixed temperature/rate of rise heat detectors in them.
