Safeway is a chain of grocery stores. This location is located in Crowfoot, NW Calgary. The store was built in 1984. It went through renovations from July to September 2020 and has a new fire alarm system as there are new notification appliances and pull stations. The fire alarm system is from the most recent renovation. This location opened up as a Food For Less in 1984, and was converted into a Safeway in 2000.

System Specifications (post-renovations)

FACP

The fire alarm panel is a Simplex 4100ES InfoAlarm. It was installed in 2015, and despite being fully addressable and IDNet since 2020, it still has all the conventional zones. It is unknown why they converted the whole system to addressable during the renovations. The panel was the only system component to remain during these renovations. Since these are two "different" systems, the post-renovations system setup will be here.

Notification Appliances

The notification appliances are all from Simplex's "TrueAlert" line of products. The main notification appliances are Simplex 4906-9127 (red, wall, SmartSync) horn/strobes. They replaced EST PowerSaver Integrity horn/strobes prior to the renovations. Some have been installed in new locations, such as the wall at the front of the store, and the wall by the pharmacy, as well as one pointing towards the produce. By the tables in the low ceilings, there's a Simplex 4906-9101 (red, wall) remote strobe. Outside, there is a Simplex 4906-9105 (red, wall) weatherproof remote strobe by the left renovated entrance. All of these notification appliances were installed in summer 2020.

Pull Stations

The pull stations are all Simplex 4099-9004 single-action, addressable (IDNet) pull stations with an LED. These were installed in summer 2020. They are in the place of most pull stations, however some previous pull stations were removed and replaced with nothing. As of February 2021 a Simplex 4099-9004 has been installed by the juice.

Automatic Detection Devices

Unknown, none noticed as of yet.

System Specifications

Date of last known Upgrade: 2018
Year Decommissioned: 2020

FACP

The fire panel was (and still is) a Simplex 4100ES InfoAlarm installed in 2015. It replaced an older Edwards 6616, possibly after a CPU fail. Despite the panel being addressable, the system is set up in a non-addressable manner. The panel has 16 zones. The store got renovated in 2020, but the fire panel remained. The system is now fully addressable.

Notification Appliances

The notification appliances were EST "PowerSaver Integrity" 757H-15PS horn/strobes installed in 2000 when the store was converted to Safeway. They were kept from the Edwards 6616 system, and they likely replaced older Edwards horn/strobes. All of these horn/strobes were replaced with Simplex TrueAlert horn/strobes in July 2020.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

This store had a variety of pull stations, due to the age of the store and number of pull stations that were defective. There were two Edwards 275-C111 pull stations by the right entrance, which were likely installed in the late 1980s-early 1990s during the Food For Less days. The left entrance where the panel is, there was a Simplex MS-301C pull station on the left of the doors, possibly installed in the early-mid 2000s replacing an Edwards pull station. There were two Tyco/Grinnell MS-401 pull stations, one in the backroom and one by the juice, in which that one replaced a Notifier MPS-950B in 2018. There was an Edwards 270-SPO in the backroom as well, unknown if original as the logo is hard to see from the backroom doors, the only non "tab" pull station. There was a Mircom MS-401 installed in 2018 at the backroom doors where you can see the 270-SPO. It replaced a Tyco/Grinnell MS-401 pull station. All of these pull stations were replaced in summer 2020 due to not being addressable.

Automatic Detection Devices

Though there were heat and smoke detectors, it is unknown what they were.
