Southland Leisure Centre is an indoor leisure centre located at 2000 Southland Drive Southwest, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The facility is owned and operated by the City of Calgary. The building opened in 1983, and was renovated in 2008. The fire alarm system was upgraded in 2008, and again in May of 2023.

System Specifications (May 2023-present)

FACP

The building is protected by an Edwards EST4 addressable fire alarm system. The panel location is unknown. The system runs Edwards' Signature addressable protocol, and is configured for two-stage operation. First stage coding is 20BPM, followed by temporal in general alarm.

Annunciators

There is an Edwards EST4 annunciator (model to be confirmed) in the main entrance vestibule.

Notification Appliances

Most notification appliances are Siemens MBDC-10 motor bells (10" gong). The locker rooms have Siemens MBDC-6 motor bells (6" gong). There is a Siemens SFM24-10 motor bell (10" gong) by the play structure in the pool area as a deficiency replacement.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

Most pull stations are EST SIGA-270P addressable two-stage single-action pull stations. The pool area has Edwards 270P-SPO conventional two-stage single-action pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices

There are EST SIGA-SD addressable photoelectric duct smoke detectors on several air handling units. The building is equipped with a sprinkler system.

Modules

There are EST SIGA-CT1 addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system's tamper and flow switches.

System Specifications (2008-May 2023)

System Specifications
FACP: Siemens MXL
FACP Location: Unknown
System Type: Addressable
System Line Voltage: 120VAC
NAC Voltage: 24VFWR
System Coding: 20BPM (First stage)
Temporal (GA)

FACP

The building was protected by a Siemens MXL addressable fire alarm system. The panel location was unknown. The system ran Siemens' FirePrint addressable protocol, and was configured for two-stage operation. First stage coding was 20BPM, followed by temporal in general alarm.

Notification Appliances

Most notification appliances were Siemens MBDC-10 motor bells (10" gong). The change rooms, meeting rooms, and some hallways had Siemens MBDC-6 motor bells (6" gong). In the pool's men's locker room, there was a Wheelock MB-G6-24 motor bell (6" gong), the only device left from the previous system. It was installed prior to 2006. There was one deficiency replacement; a Siemens SFM24-10A motor bell (10" gong) by the splash area in the pool area, which replaced a rusted-out MBDC-10 in 2015. All notification appliances are still in use on the current fire alarm system.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

All pull stations were Siemens MSI-30B addressable two-stage single-action pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices

None noticed.

Bonus Information

For the wave pool warning system, there is an Edwards "Adaptahorn" 874-N5 horn and an Edwards "Adaptabeacon" 110FINB-N5 blue strobe at the back of the pool. The horn is set to a very loud volume, and there's a sign above the two saying "WARNING! Light and buzzer activate. Waves will be on in 10 seconds"

There is a Wheelock MB-G6-24 motor bell gong mounted on a water motor, which is used as a dump warning for the large bucket on the play structure.

Permit Information

Commercial / Multi Family Project is Issued Permit. Permit issued on 2023-05-25. Project scope was Fire Alarm Repair.
