All pull stations are Edwards 270-SPO conventional single-action pull stations. These are mostly original in the 1964 wing. Deficiency replacements of all generations can be found throughout. There is also one 270-SPO with "LOCAL ALARM" in the school. The newer wing has Edwards 270A-SPO pull stations.

Dunnsmuir Middle School is a middle school located at 3341 Painter Road, in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The school opened in 1964, and has been added onto several times. The fire alarm system is partially original, and was partially upgraded in 2015.

System Specifications (Main Building, 2015-present)

FACP

The building is protected by an EST QuickStart QS4 hybrid-addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the main electrical room, and was installed in 2015, replacing an Edwards Custom 6500, the cabinet remains beside the QS4. The system runs EST’s Signature addressable protocol, and the system coding is temporal.

Annunciators

There is an EST RLCD-C annunciator paired with two EST RLED24 annunciators at the main entrance. All annunciators are mounted inside an EST RA-ENC3 enclosure.

Notification Appliances

The 1964 wing has the original Edwards “Durabel” 6100D vibrating bells (10” gong). The recent additions have Edwards MB10-24 motor bells (10” gong). Most deficiency replacement bells are Edwards 439D-10AWC vibrating bells (10” gong). Other deficiency replacements include a Simplex 2901-9724 motor bell (10” gong) in the auxiliary gym, and a Notifier KMS-10-24A motor bell (10” gong) in a classroom hallway. The boiler room has an Edwards “Genesis” G1RF-VM remote strobe (red, wall-mount, FIRE marking, set to 15cd).

Pull Stations

All pull stations are Edwards 270-SPO conventional single-action pull stations. These are mostly original in the 1964 wing. Deficiency replacements of all generations can be found throughout. There is also one 270-SPO with "LOCAL ALARM" in the school. The newer wing has Edwards 270A-SPO pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices

There are EST SIGA2-PS addressable photoelectric smoke detectors throughout the building, mounted on EST SIGA-SB bases. All storage rooms have Edwards 281C conventional fixed/rate-of-rise heat detectors. Deficiency replacements include: An Edwards SIGA-PD addressable photoelectric smoke detector in a stairwell, an Edwards 6249C conventional ionization smoke detector, and a System Sensor 5601A conventional fixed/rate-of-rise heat detector in a classroom.

System Specifications (Portables)

FACP

The portables are also protected by the same EST QuickStart QS4 system. However, the portables are all conventional.

Notification Appliances

Most notification appliances are Edwards MB10-24 motor bells (10” gong). One portable has an Edwards 439D-10AWC vibrating bell (10” gong). Two portables have Simplex 2901-9724 motor bells (10” gong).

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

All pull stations are Edwards 270-SPO conventional single-action pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices

There are System Sensor 5601A conventional fixed/rate-of-rise heat detectors in most portables. There is an Edwards 283A conventional 135°F fixed temperature heat detector in a storage room.
