EQ Bank Tower is a multi-story tower in Downtown Calgary it was built 79-1980 according to building officials and verified with historical aerial imagery. The system is 60% original overall.

System Specifications

FACP

The fire alarm control unit is a Mircom FX-2000 in a BBX-1072A cabinet. Despite being an addressable panel, the system is mostly conventional but the main and fourth floors have been converted to addressable. It was likely installed in the early 2000s. From the devices installed throughout, it is most definitely an original Edwards 6500 as evident by the abandoned annunciator behind the current annunciator. The addressable parts of this system run Mircom's Advanced addressable protocol, and the system coding is continuous.

Annunciators

There is one RAX-LCD in the front lobby. Mounted to the front door of the old 6500 annunciator cabinet.

Notification Appliances

There is a mix of mostly Mircom BL-10A and BL-10B motor bells with a few BL-6A/B (6-inch) motor bells mixed in.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

Conventional

About 80% of the conventional pull stations are original Edwards 270-SPO (single action, break glass) with the original solid glass rod. There are a few Mircom MS-401 (single-action) replacements.

Addressable

There are Mircom MS-401AD (single-action) addressable pull stations installed throughout the 1st and 4th floors

Automatic Detection Devices

Conventional

There is an equal variety of Edwards 280 series and FDD CR-135 fixed/rate of rise heat detectors installed. Along with several Mirtone (model?) bi-metal type self-restoring heat detectors.

Addressable

There are of Mircom MIX-2251AP (photo) detectors installed on the 4rd floor. One MIX-5351RAPA (rate of rise) heat detector recently installed at one of the tenant entrances. Along with a Mircom MIX-5251RAPA (rate of rise) heat detector in the loading dock, the main telephone room and one in the main electrical room. Finally, there is a MIX-5251HAPA (200°F) addressable heat detector in the generator room. [[]
