EQ Bank Tower is a multi-story tower located at 906 12 Ave SW, Downtown Calgary. It was built 1979-1980 according to building officials and verified with historical aerial imagery. The system is 60% original overall, with an upgrade in the early 2000s.

System Specifications

FACP

The building is protected by a Mircom FX-2000 hybrid addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the main electrical room, and is in a BBX-1072A cabinet.The system is mostly wired as conventional, with the main and 4th floors being fully addressable. It was likely installed in the early 2000s. The addressable parts of this system run Mircom's CLIP addressable protocol, and the system coding is continuous.

Based on the devices, the FX-2000 most definitely replaced the original Edwards 6500 as evident by the abandoned annunciator behind the current annunciator.

Annunciators

There is a Mircom RAX-LCD in the front lobby. Mounted to the front door of the old Edwards 456 annunciator cabinet.

Notification Appliances

Most notification appliances are Mircom BL-10A motor bells (10" gong) and BL-10B motor bells (10" gong).

There are a few Mircom BL-6A motor bells (6" gong) and BL-6B motor bells (6" gong) mixed in.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

Conventional

About 80% of the conventional pull stations are original Edwards 270-SPO (single action, break glass) with the original solid glass rod.

There are a few Mircom MS-401 single-action pull stations as deficiency replacements.

Addressable

There are Mircom MS-401AD (single-action) addressable pull stations installed throughout the 1st and 4th floors.

Automatic Detection Devices

Conventional

There is an equal variety of Edwards 281C fixed/rate-of-rise and FDD CR-135 fixed/rate of rise heat detectors installed. Along with several Mirtone (model?) bi-metal type self-restoring heat detectors.

Addressable

There are Mircom MIX-2251BA addressable photelectric smoke detectors installed on the 4rd floor.

There is a Mircom MIX-5351RAPA addressable rate-of-rise heat detector recently installed at one of the tenant entrances, along with a Mircom MIX-5251RAPA (rate of rise) heat detector in the loading dock, the main telephone room and one in the main electrical room.

Finally, there is a MIX-5251HAPA (200°F) addressable heat detector in the generator room.

All detectors are mounted on System Sensor B210LPA bases.
