Deerfoot 17 is a midrise office building located at 2710 17 Avenue Southeast, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The building is also referred to as the “Merchant Law Building” due to the large light-up sign on the roof. The building opened in 1981, and the fire alarm system is mostly original.
System Specifications
FACP
The building is protected by a Simplex 4100ES conventional fire alarm system. The panel is located in the main lobby. The system coding is temporal.
This panel was installed in 2013, replacing the original Edwards 6500 FACP.
Notification Appliances
Most notification appliances are Edwards “Durabel” 6100D vibrating bells (6” gong).
Some units have Edwards 439D-6AWC vibrating bells (6” gong).
There are Simplex 2901-9723 motor bells (6” gong) in some areas as deficiency replacements.
One unit has a Pyrotronics BDC-624C vibrating bell (6" gong), and another has an Edwards 439D-10AWC vibrating bell (10" gong) mounted on an Edwards 403-5A-R strobe plate (15cd).
Some areas have Notifier KMS-6-24A motor bells (6" gong) as deficiency replacements.

Most pull stations are Edwards 275-C111 conventional single-action pull stations.
Some areas have Mircom MS-401 conventional single-action pull stations as deficiency replacements.
There is an Edwards 270-SPO conventional single-action pull station in a fifth floor unit as a deficiency replacement.
Automatic Detection Devices
There are FDD CR-135 conventional 135°F fixed/rate-of-rise heat detectors in all units, utility closets and electrical rooms.
