The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology is a technical college/trades school located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. This page will cover the South Learning Centre/Shaw Theatre building, located at 10604 Princess Elizabeth Ave NW #10824, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The building opened in 1996, and the fire alarm system is mostly original, with a recent upgrade.

System Specifications (1996-present)

FACP

The building is protected by a Simplex 4100ES addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the main entrance vestibule, and is equipped with the Color ES touchscreen interface. The system runs Simplex’s IDNet addressable protocol, and is equipped with voice evacuation. The evacuation signal is slow whoop followed by a custom message.
This panel was installed in 2023, replacing a 4100U w/InfoAlarm, which in turn replaced a Simplex 4100+ in the late 2000s. This panel is installed in the 4100+ cabinet.

Notification Appliances

The South Learning Centre has Wheelock E-9070-LS-24-CFW speaker/strobes (white, ceiling-mount, 70V, 15cd).
The Shaw Theatre has Simplex 2902-9711 remote speakers (red, surface-mount, re-entrant) mounted on Wheelock VLPS-24 strobe plates (1.5cd).

At each doorway to other buildings and annexes, there are Simplex 4904-9101 remote strobes (red, wall-mount, 4.75cd) inside "FIRE - DO NOT ENTER" signs.

For exterior notification, there is a Simplex 2902-9711 remote speaker outside the entrance.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

All pull stations are Simplex 4099-9004 addressable single-action pull stations.

These replaced Simplex 4099-9001 addressable single-action pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices

There are Simplex “TrueAlarm” 4098-9714 addressable photoelectric smoke detectors throughout the building, mounted on Simplex 4098-9792 bases.
There are Simplex 4098-9755 addressable photoelectric duct smoke detectors on all air handling units, with Simplex 2098-9808 remote indicators mounted on the drop ceiling below each detector.

Modules

There are Simplex 4090-9001 addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system’s tamper and flow switches.

There are Simplex 4090-9002 addressable relay modules for elevator recall and other purposes.

EOLs

There are Simplex 2081-9040C end of line resistor plates on all sprinkler and signal circuits.
