This mall is protected by a two-stage voice-evac networked EST3 fire alarm system, installed in 2019. It replaced an older EST3 networked fire alarm system which was installed in the 2010 expansions, due to that one having 90 troubles, 23 supervisories, and 11 monitor troubles. It was so problematic that the piezo in one of the annunciators was defective from sounding so frequently. The current EST3 has voice evac capabilities, and labeled GE EST, potentially new old stock as the GE logo was from 2011-2013. It is currently unknown where the panels are, but there is more than one. When the system goes into alarm, the general alarm is the code 3 1kHz tone, with all strobes synchronized. | This mall is protected by a two-stage voice-evac networked EST3 fire alarm system, installed in 2019. CF Chinook Centre is the largest indoor shopping mall in Calgary. It is owned by Cadillac Fairview, the same company that owns CF Market Mall. This one, unlike Market, has voice-evac. The mall is located near the geographic center of the city, and is on MacLeod Trail SW and near Glenmore Trail. This mall was built in 1960, the food court being added in the 1980s, underwent a major renovation in 1997 until 2000, expanded more in 2010, and the food court was once again renovated in 2019.
The mall also has an 8-story professional tower known as Chinook Professional Tower, a bowling alley, a 900-seat dining hall, and the 16-screen Scotiabank Theatre Chinook.
Some tenants in this mall have their own fire alarm system. All systems are wired to trip each other when one goes into alarm.
System Specifications
FACP
This mall is protected by a two-stage voice-evac networked EST3 fire alarm system, installed in 2019. It replaced an older EST3 networked fire alarm system which was installed in the 2010 expansions, due to that one having 90 troubles, 23 supervisories, and 11 monitor troubles. It was so problematic that the piezo in one of the annunciators was defective from sounding so frequently. The current EST3 has voice evac capabilities, and labeled GE EST, potentially new old stock as the GE logo was from 2011-2013. It is currently unknown where the panels are, but there is more than one. When the system goes into alarm, the general alarm is the code-3 1kHz tone and the default message, with all strobes synchronized.
Annunciators
The annunciators are EST 3-LCDANN and EST 3-6ANN annunciators. They replaced older variants from the 2010 expansion. As mentioned above, the piezo in one of them became defective from sounding a lot, specifically the 3-LCDANN in the food court before 2019.
Notification Appliances
The main notification appliances are EST 757-7A-SS70W "Integrity" (white, 70V) speaker/strobes, from around 1997 to 2000. Most of the Integrity speaker/strobes are on the ceiling and have the LKC-1 (ceiling FIRE orientation) lens, however a few have the regular wall orientation lens. The 2010 expansion and food court renovation have EST "Genesis" G4-S7VM (white, wall, 70V, no FIRE marking) speaker/strobes and EST "Genesis" G4-S7 (white, wall, no FIRE marking) speakers. In some areas, there are EST "Integrity" 965-7A-4RW (white, 4", round, 70V) speaker/strobes. In the West Parkade there are System Sensor "SpectrAlert Advance" SPRK (red, wall) weatherproof speakers with System Sensor "SpectrAlert Advance" SRK (red, wall) weatherproof remote strobes mounted directly adjacent to the speakers.
Initiating Devices
Pull Stations
The pull stations are mostly EST SIGA-270P addressable two-stage pull stations, the 2010 wing has the first generation (2000s EST logo). The skywalk expansion and food court have the current-generation EST SIGA-270P, installed in 2019. The 1980 part has second-generation Edwards 270-GAO two-stage pull stations (classic shield, no FIRE ALARM) with some 1990s variants (newer shield, FIRE ALARM) the only pull stations to remain intact from the expansion. However, in the original part (1960), there is supposedly an original first-generation Edwards 270-GAO two-stage pull stations (classic shield, FIRE ALARM).
