The University at Albany is a public research university with campuses in Albany, Rensselaer and Guilderland, NY. It was founded in 1844, is part of the State University of New York system, and enrolls over 17,900 students. The Uptown Campus in Albany is most known for being in weatherdan882002’s UAlbany fire alarm and fire drill videos. This page will cover the Campus Center Extension. The extension was built in 1994, and underwent a large renovation in 2017. The system was installed following the renovation. It is not networked to the one in the campus center, despite it being an extension.
System Specifications
FACP
The extension is protected by a Simplex 4100ES addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in a public area, and was installed in 2017 during the large renovation. The system runs Simplex’s IDNet addressable protocol, and is also equipped with voice-evacuation, however the tones and messages are not known.
Notification Appliances
All of the notification appliances are from Simplex’s “TrueAlert” lineup. Throughout the building, there are Simplex 4906-9151 (red, wall-mount, SmartSync) speaker/strobes. In the main lobby and in large areas, there are also Simplex 4902-9716 (red, wall-mount) speakers for additional sound coverage. In the bathrooms, group study area as well as classrooms, there are Simplex 4906-9101 remote strobes. There are also a few Simplex 2901-9333 vibrating bells on Simplex 4903-9105 strobe plates leftover in the bookstore as well as in a hallway. It is unknown how the system works.
Initiating Devices
Pull Stations
The pull stations are all Simplex 4099-9003 addressable, dual-action pull stations, installed during the renovations. However, there are Simplex 2099-9768 “chevron” pull stations that remain in the bookstore, possibly wired to modules.
Automatic Detection Devices
The smoke detectors are all Simplex 4098-9792 bases with 4098-9714 addressable photoelectric smoke detector heads.

FACP
The extension was protected by a Simplex 4100+ conventional fire alarm system. The panel was located in a public area, however it is not exactly known where it was. The panel was original, and the system coding was continuous. The system was also programmed for audible silence.
Annunciators
There was a Simplex 4603-9101 LCD annunciator at the entrance.
Notification Appliances
Most of the notification appliances were Simplex 2901-9333 vibrating bells (10” gong) on Simplex 4903-9105 strobe plates (100cd), installed during construction. The strobe plates have “FIRE” sideways, due to the gong of the bells being too big. In the Sbarro shop, there was a Wheelock MB-G6-24 (6” gong) motor bell on a Wheelock LSPM-24-VFR strobe plate (15/75cd), which was installed in 2003 when it opened. In the Zepps sandwich shop, there was a Faraday 4461B101424DC vibrating bell (10” gong) on a Simplex 4905-9921 retrofit plate with a Simplex 4904-9178 remote strobe (15cd, red, horizontal), as a replacement for better coverage. In the cafeteria, there was a Wheelock MB-G10-24 (10” gong) on a Wheelock RSSP-24MCW (red, multi-candela) strobe plate, installed as a deficiency replacement.

Pull Stations
The majority of pull stations were Simplex 2099-9768 “chevron” pull stations. In the Zepps, there is a Simplex 2099-9756 conventional dual-action pull station, as a deficiency replacement. In the Outtakes convenience store, there was an RSG RMS-1T single-action pull station.
Automatic Detection Devices
The smoke detectors were mostly Simplex 2098-9202 photoelectric smoke/heat detector combos, which were original. In the Zepps, there are Simplex 4098-9601 conventional photoelectric smoke detectors, on 4098-9788 bases. These were also installed as deficiency replacements elsewhere.
