Melcor YMCA at Crowfoot is a large recreation centre located at 8100 John Laurie Boulevard Northwest, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The building houses a pool, a fitness centre, and shares a building with the Crowfoot Arena, which has a separate entrance. The Crowfoot Arena was built in the late 1980s when the original Crowfoot Rec Centre was built, and had a system upgrade in 1991 after the facility closed. The YMCA was added on in 1996, and officially opened in 1997. The system was partially upgraded in 2007; most notification appliances are original.

System Specifications (2007-present)

FACP

The building is protected by a Mircom FX-2000 addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the Crowfoot Arena entrance vestibule. The system runs Mircom’s CLIP addressable protocol, and the system coding is likely continuous.

Annunciators

There is a Mircom RAX-LCD annunciator paired with a Mircom RAX-1048TZDS annunciator in the YMCA entrance vestibule. Both annunciators are mounted in a Mircom BB-1002 enclosure.

Notification Appliances

Melcor YMCA (1996)

Most notification appliances are Simplex 12901-9801 remote mechanical horns (red) mounted on Simplex 4903-9101 strobe plates (4.75cd).
The aforementioned horns are also mounted on Wheelock VLPS-24 strobe plates (1.5cd) in some areas.
The main lobby and kiddie pool area have System Sensor "L-Series" P4RLA horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, set to 15cd) as deficiency replacements.
There are Wheelock MT-24-WS horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, 1.5cd) labeled “ALARM”, for unknown purposes.

Crowfoot Arena (1991)

All audible notification appliances are Edwards 439D-10AWC vibrating bells (10” gong). Most are mounted on Wheelock VLPS-24 strobe plates (1.5cd).
Some are mounted on Wheelock RSSP-2415W strobe plates (15cd) or Edwards 403-5A-R strobe plates (15cd) as deficiency replacements.

Outdoors

There is a Faraday 4466B61424DC vibrating bell (6” gong) outside an emergency exit on the YMCA side.

Pull Stations

All pull stations are Mircom MS-401AD addressable single-action pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices

All publicly accessible areas are protected by a sprinkler system with waterflow detection. As such, no detectors are present in these areas.

Modules

There are Mircom MIX-M500MA addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system’s tamper and flow switches.
