FACP: Edwards EST4 FACP Location: Behind Customer Service System Type: Addressable System Line Voltage: 120VAC NAC Voltage: 24VDC System Coding: 20BPM (Alert) Temporal (Alarm) Date of Last Known Upgrade: 2023 Year Opened: 1983, 2008 |
Southland Leisure Centre is an indoor leisure centre located at 2000 Southland Drive Southwest, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The facility is owned and operated by the City of Calgary. The building opened in 1983, and was renovated in 2008. The fire alarm system was upgraded in 2008, and again in May of 2023.
System Specifications (May 2023-present)
FACP
The building is protected by an Edwards EST4 addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located behind the customer service desk. The system runs Edwards' Signature addressable protocol, and is configured for two-stage operation. Alert signal coding is 20BPM, followed by temporal for the evacuation signal.
Annunciators
There is an Edwards EST4-4ANN annunciator in the main entrance vestibule.
Notification Appliances
The notification appliances were left untouched during the upgrade.
Most notification appliances are Siemens MBDC-6 motor bells (6" gong).
Areas with higher ambient noise levels, such as the pool area, have Siemens MBDC-10 motor bells (10” gong).
There is one Wheelock MB-G6-24 motor bell (6” gong) in the men’s locker room, which was not replaced during the 2008 upgrade.
There is a Siemens SFM24-10 motor bell (10" gong) by the play structure in the pool area as a deficiency replacement.
Initiating Devices
Pull Stations
All pull stations are Edwards SIGA-270P addressable two-stage single-action pull stations.
Automatic Detection Devices
There are Edwards SIGA-HRD addressable 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors in the elevator shaft, around the perimeter of the main lobby, and in some mechanical rooms.
There is an Edwards SIGA-OSD addressable optical smoke detector in the elevator machine room.
All detectors are mounted on Edwards SIGA-SB bases.
There are Edwards SIGA-SD addressable photoelectric duct smoke detectors on several air handling units.
The building is equipped with a sprinkler system.
Modules
There are Edwards SIGA-CT1 addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system's tamper and flow switches.
There are Edwards SIGA-CR addressable relays for elevator recall.
There are Edwards SIGA-IM addressable isolator modules on the SLC.

FACP: Siemens MXL-IQ FACP Location: Behind Customer Service System Type: Addressable System Line Voltage: 120VAC NAC Voltage: 24VFWR System Coding: 20BPM (Alert) Temporal (Alarm) Year Installed: 2008 Year of last known upgrade: 2015 |
FACP
The building was protected by a Siemens MXL-IQ addressable fire alarm system. The panel was located behind the customer service desk. The system ran Siemens' FirePrint addressable protocol, and was configured for two-stage operation. Alert signal coding was 20BPM, followed by temporal in evacuation signal. This panel was replaced due to an issue with the alarm relay contacts.
Annunciators
There was a Siemens RCC-3 annunciator in the main entrance vestibule.
Notification Appliances
Most notification appliances were Siemens MBDC-6 motor bells (6" gong).
Areas with higher ambient noise levels, such as the pool area, had Siemens MBDC-10 motor bells (10” gong).
There was one Wheelock MB-G6-24 motor bell (6” gong) in the men’s locker room, which was not replaced during the 2008 upgrade.
There was a Siemens SFM24-10 motor bell (10" gong) by the play structure in the pool area as a deficiency replacement.
All devices remain in use on the current fire alarm system.
Initiating Devices
Pull Stations
All pull stations were Siemens MSI-30B addressable two-stage single-action pull stations.
Automatic Detection Devices
There was a Siemens “FirePrint” FP-11 addressable multisensor smoke/heat detector in the elevator machine room.
There were Siemens FPT-11 addressable fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors in the elevator shaft, around the perimeter of the main lobby, and in some mechanical rooms.
Modules
There were Siemens TRI-M addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system's tamper and flow switches.
There were Siemens LIM-1 addressable isolator modules on the SLC.
System Specifications (1983-2008)
Please note that these details are unconfirmed.

FACP: Edwards Custom 6500 FACP Location: Behind Reception System Type: Conventional System Line Voltage: 120VAC NAC Voltage: 24VDC System Coding: 20BPM (Alert) 120BPM (Evac) Strobes Synchronized: N/A Year Installed: 1983 Year Decommissioned: 2008 |
FACP
The building was protected by an Edwards Custom 6500 conventional fire alarm system. The panel was located behind the reception desk. The system was configured for two-stage operation. The alert signal was 20BPM, followed by 120BPM march time for the evacuation signal.
Notification Appliances
All notification appliances were Edwards “Durabel” 6100D vibrating bells (6’ gong).
There was one Wheelock MB-G6-24 motor bell (6" gong) in the mens' locker room as a deficiency replacement. This bell is still in service.
