St. John’s International Airport is the largest airport in Newfoundland. It is located at 100 World Parkway. The original terminal’s age is unknown, but it was redeveloped and expanded to have 8 gates in 2002. The airport was again expanded in 2018, and brought the total number of gates to 16. The fire alarm system was modified following the 2018 expansion, but most of the system remains from 2002.
System Specifications (2002/2018-present)
FACP
The airport is protected by a Notifier NFS2-3030C addressable fire alarm system. The panel details and location are unknown, but the model is speculated based on the size of the building. The system runs either CLIP or FlashScan protocol, and is two stage, with first stage coding being 20BPM, and general alarm being temporal
Notification Appliances
There are various notification appliances throughout the airport, but all of them are made by System Sensor. The 2002 portion of the building has System Sensor “SpectrAlert” P2415A horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, 15cd). The washrooms of the 2002 portion have System Sensor “SpectrAlert” S2415A remote strobes (red, wall-mount, 15cd). The 2018 expansion has System Sensor “SpectrAlert Advance” P4RA horn/strobes (red, wall-mount) set on 15 candela. These are also seen as replacements in the 2002 portion. The washrooms of the 2018 expansion likely have System Sensor “SpectrAlert Advance” SRA remote strobes (red, wall-mount) set on 15 candela. For additional coverage in all areas, there are System Sensor “SpectrAlert Advance” PC4WA horn/strobes (white, ceiling-mount) set to 15 candela.
Initiating Devices
Pull Stations
The 2002 portion of the building has Notifier FM-955 two-stage addressable single-action pull stations. The 2018 expansion has Notifier N-MPS-2A two-stage addressable single-action pull stations. These are also seen as replacements for failed FM-955 pull stations.
Automatic Detection Devices
There are no detectors visible, but there are concealed sprinkler heads in the departures hall, and the system has waterflow detection.
