Carewest Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre is an adult care facility located at 722 16 Avenue NE, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The facility is owned and operated by Alberta Health Services. The facility opened in 1978, and the fire alarm system was upgraded in 2010.

System Specifications (2010-present)

FACP

The building is protected by an Edwards EST3 addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the basement electrical room. The system runs Edwards’ Signature addressable protocol, and is configured for two-stage operation. The alert coding is 20BPM, and the evacuation signal was continuous.

Annunciators

There is an Edwards EST3-LCDANN annunciator with an LCDXL1 display in the main entrance vestibule.
There are Edwards EST3-3ANN annunciator cabinets with EST3-24R annunciation cards at all nurse’s stations.

Notification Appliances

Most notification appliances are Edwards 439D-10AWC vibrating bells (10” gong).
There are Edwards “Integrity” 202-7A-T remote strobes (red, wall-mount, 15/75cd) next to most bells.
The electrical room has an Edwards MB10-24 motor bell (10” gong) with an Edwards “Genesis” G1R-VM remote strobe (red, wall-mount, no marking, set to 15cd) mounted next to it.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

All pull stations are EST SIGA-270P addressable two-stage single-action pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices

There are EST SIGA-PS addressable photoelectric smoke detectors throughout the building.
Some areas have EST SIGA-HRS addressable 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors.
All detectors are mounted on EST SIGA-SB bases.

Modules

There are EST SIGA-CT1 addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system’s tamper and flow switches.
