The University of Calgary is a public university in Calgary, and it has many interesting fire alarm systems. This page covers the Kinesiology B wing, which is right next to Kinesiology A. Same building, but different sections. This one, unlike Kinesiology A, has a voice-evac system. This block was built in 1981, according to a plaque in the building. The fire alarm panel isn't original, but everything else is.
System Specifications
FACP
The fire alarm control panel is a Simplex 4100U that started out as an auxiliary panel for extra detectors in 2006. It was wired into and also replaced the original Simplex 2120. The 4100U was installed to cover extra detectors because they couldn't wire any more points to the 2120. The 4100U officially replaced the 2120 in 2019. The 2120 cabinet is now gutted, but it still remains.
Notification Appliances
All of the notification appliances are original, they are mainly Simplex "LifeAlarm" 2902-9734 flush-mount speakers, seen throughout the whole building. The other notification appliances are Simplex "LifeAlarm" 2902-9732 surface mount speakers, also original. Just like Kinesiology A, there are no visual appliances.
Initiating Devices
Pull Stations
All of the pull stations are original, they are Simplex 4251-20 single action, T-bar pull stations.
Automatic Detection Devices
There are Simplex 4098-9714 addressable photoelectric smoke detectors throughout, from 2006-present.
