The University of Calgary is a public university in Calgary, and it has many interesting fire alarm systems. This page covers the Kinesiology B wing, which is right next to Kinesiology A. Same building, but different sections. This one, unlike Kinesiology A, has a voice-evac system. (Edit 9/4/2021: Kinesiology A received a system upgrade, and is now fully addressable with voice evac.) This block was built in 1981, according to a plaque in the building. The fire alarm panel is not original, but almost everything else is.

System Specifications

FACP

The fire alarm control panel is a Simplex 4100U that started out as an auxiliary panel for extra detectors. It was wired into and also replaced the original Simplex 2120. The 4100U was installed in 2006 to cover extra detectors because they could not wire any more points to the 2120. The 4100U officially replaced the 2120 in 2019. The 2120 cabinet is now gutted, but it still remains. The panel is located at the front entrance.

Notification Appliances

The notification appliances are all original, they are mainly Simplex "LifeAlarm" 2902-9734 flush-mount speakers, seen throughout the whole building. The other notification appliances are Simplex "LifeAlarm" 2902-9732 surface mount speakers, also original. For outdoor notification, there are Simplex 2902-9732 speakers scattered outside the building, with one Simplex 2902-9711 re-entrant speaker outside one entrance, as a replacement. It appears to be from the late 1990s, according to the label style. There appears to be no visual alarms in this building.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

The pull stations are the original Simplex 4251-20 single action, T-bar pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices

There are Simplex 4098-9714 addressable photoelectric smoke detectors throughout, from 2006-present.
