The University at Albany is a public research university with campuses in Albany, Rensselaer and Guilderland, NY. It was founded in 1844, is part of the State University of New York system,  and enrolls over 17,900 students. The Uptown Campus in Albany is most known for being in weatherdan882002’s UAlbany fire alarm and fire drill videos. This page will cover the University Library, the main library on campus. The building was built in the mid-1960s, and the system was upgraded in 2001.

System Specifications (2001-present)

FACP

The building is protected by a Simplex 4120 addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in an electrical or mechanical room. It is not networked to any of the other buildings on campus. The system runs Simplex’s MAPNET II addressable protocol, and is equipped with voice-evacuation. The alarm pattern is as follows: two chimes, two slow whoops, three playbacks of the default message, and then slow whoop until silenced. The strobes flash once before the audio starts. The system is also programmed for audible silence.

Annunciators

There is a Simplex 4100 Remote Command Center at the entrance, consisting of a 4100-1292 LCD display and CPU, 4100-1244 remote microphone, and a 4100-1255 8-channel audio switch. There are also a few Simplex 4603-9101 LCD annunciators in some areas.

Notification Appliances

The notification appliances are mostly Wheelock E70-24MCW speaker/strobes (red, wall-mount, multi-candela), installed throughout the building. They are likely set to 1 watt, as they are reportedly not very loud, and many are set to 15cd. In the bathrooms, there are Wheelock RSS-24MCW remote strobes (red, wall-mount, multi-candela, set to 15cd)

For outdoor notification, there is a Wheelock RSSWP-2475-FR weatherproof remote strobe (red, wall-mount, 185cd).

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

All pull stations are Simplex 4099-9001 addressable single-action pull stations. Some are mounted under

Automatic Detection Devices

All smoke detectors are Simplex 4098-9714 addressable photoelectric smoke detectors, mounted on 4098-9714 bases. There are also Simplex 2098-9207A long-range beam smoke detectors in some areas, wired to 4090-9001 addressable monitor modules.
