The building opened in 1981, and was expanded in 1987 to include the Jack Simpson Gym. Most of the fire alarm system was installed in 1987, with a panel replacement in 2019.

FACP

The building is protected by a Simplex 4100U hybrid-addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located at the northeast/MacEwan Student Centre entrance. The system runs Simplex's IDNet addressable protocol, and is equipped with voice evacuation. The system plays a whoop tone, followed by the default Simplex message.

The 4100U was originally installed in 2006 as an auxiliary panel for the previous Simplex 2120, and everything on the 2120 was moved to the 4100U in 2019.

The 2120 cabinet remains, however is gutted.
