Westbrook Mall is a shopping mall located at 1200 37 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta. The anchor tenants are Safeway and Walmart. The mall opened in 1964, and underwent renovations in 2002. The fire alarm system was upgraded during the renovation.

System Specifications (2002-present)

FACP

The building is protected by an Edwards EST3 addressable fire alarm system consisting of three nodes. Two for anchor tenants, one for the main mall. The main mall panel is located in an electrical room on the west side of the mall. The other two nodes feed the Walmart and the Safeway. The fire alarm panels in the anchor tenant spaces are configured for single-stage and will evacuate only the respective store immediately upon alarm. The system runs Edwards’ Signature addressable protocol, and is configured for two-stage operation. Alert signal coding is 20BPM, followed by temporal for the alarm signal.

Notification Appliances

Most notification appliances are Edwards “Integrity” 757-5A-T horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, set to 15cd), mounted on the ceiling.
Walmart has Edwards 757-1A-TW remote horns (white wall-mount) on poles opposite of each other, and two EST “Genesis” G1-VM remote strobes (white, wall-mount, no marking, set to 15cd) on each side.
There are Edwards G1-HD remote horns (white, wall-mount, no marking) in Walmart as deficiency replacements.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

Most pull stations are EST SIGA-270P addressable two-stage pull stations.
Walmart and Safeway have EST SIGA-270 addressable single-stage single-action pull stations as those anchor tenants have their own panels and while networked, only ring their respective store. Meaning these stores are single-stage.
There is one Edwards 270-SPO conventional single-action pull station in the mall entrance to Safeway, wired to an EST SIGA-CT1 addressable monitor module.

Automatic Detection Devices

There are two EST SIGA-OSD addressable smoke detectors in the entrance to Safeway. The mall also has a sprinkler system.

with flow switches.

Modules

There are EST SIGA-CT1 addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system’s tamper and flow switches.

EOLs

There are Edwards EOL-P1 end-of-line resistor plates on all sprinkler and signal circuits.
