Mount Royal University is a medium-sized university located at 4825 Mount Royal Gate SW, Calgary, Alberta. This page will cover the main building, located on the Lincoln Park Campus. It was built in 1972, and the fire alarm system was upgraded in the 2000s.

System Specifications

FACP

The building is protected by an Edwards EST3 addressable fire alarm system. The panels are located in the main CACF room on the second floor, and are part of a campus-wide network. The system runs EST’s Signature addressable protocol, and is equipped with voice-evacuation. The system is also configured for two-stage operation. The alert signal is a 20BPM 1kHz tone on the speakers followed by a custom message, and the alarm signal activates the horn/strobes, self-coded to temporal.

Accessories

There is an EST “FireWorks” graphic computer in the CACF room.

Notification Appliances

There are EST “Genesis” GC-S7VM speaker/strobes (white, ceiling-mount, no marking, set to 15cd) throughout. These play the alert signal.
The notification appliances used for the evacuation signal are EST G1R-HOV15 horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, no marking, 15cd). Some of these are mounted on Notifier MPS-BB backboxes. One is installed upside-down.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

All pull stations are EST SIGA-270P addressable two-stage pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices

None noticed. There is a sprinkler system.

Modules

There are EST SIGA-CT1 addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system’s tamper and flow switches.
