CF Market Mall is one of the largest malls in Calgary, Alberta. It is located in Varsity, NW Calgary. The mall was built in 1971, majorly expanded in 1987-88, and again in 2004. The fire alarm system is from 2004 after that major expansion. The fire alarm here reportedly goes off frequently.
System Specifications
FACP
This mall is protected by a networked two-stage EST3 addressable fire alarm system. The panels were installed in 2004, after a major expansion, replacing the Edwards 6500 panels from the 1988 expansion. Annunciators are seen at every entrance, though most panels are not visible, there is one in the entrance of Safeway. One panel has a voice evacuation mic, connected to the mall's public address system. When the mic is activated, the panel silences all horns but keeps the strobes flashing as someone pages. When the system goes off in first stage, the panel makes all horns do 20BPM march time, with 3 second blasts. When in general alarm, the panel makes the integrity horn/strobes and horns do code-3, and the non-Integrity horns on continuous. There are some times where the panel goes from code 3 to march time to code 3 to march time. Unlike a lot of malls, the entire building is covered by the EST3.
Annunciators
At every entrance, there is an EST 3-LCDANN annunciator.
Notification Appliances
The main notification appliances are EST "Integrity" 757-7A-TW (15/75cd, white) horn/strobes and EST "Integrity" 757-1A-TW (white) horns. In the hallways, they are on the ceiling, with the horn/strobes having LKW-1 (wall FIRE orientation), and in a pattern of horn/strobe, horn, horn/strobe, horn. In the tenants, there are mainly EST 757-7A-TW horn/strobes on the ceiling, but some are on the wall. Some stores have EST "Integrity" 757-7A-T (15/75cd, red) horn/strobes, either on the wall or ceiling, again with LKW-1 lenses. These horns and horn/strobes are set to high volume, code-3. These horns and horn/strobes were installed in 2004. The Toys 'R' Us was added in the 1988, and has the original Edwards 882-2B horns that do continuous in full alarm. These are the only notification appliances to remain when the mall was expanded. The Safeway was the most diverse, having System Sensor "SpectrAlert" P1224MC (red, wall) horn/strobes set do high volume, electromechanical continuous. These were installed in 2004 when the Safeway was added, and it is unknown why these horn/strobes were there, but there is a 757-7A-TW in the entrance of it from the mall. As of February 12, 2022 the System Sensor horn/strobes were all replaced with EST 757-7A-T horn/strobes. In the parkade and in the parkade hallways, there are EST "Integrity" 757-5A-T (15cd) horn/strobes on the wall, but a few on the ceiling in some hallways, again installed in 2004. There are outdoor notification appliances, although they are hardly noticeable. Most of the outdoor notification appliances are EST CS405-7A-T "Enhanced Integrity" weatherproof strobes. One side of the building has an EST 757-1A-T "Integrity" remote horn. Areas that are not exposed to the open have EST 757-7A-T "Integrity" horn/strobes. Outside the Safeway, there is a System Sensor "SpectrAlert" S1224MCK (red, wall) weatherproof strobe. All of these outdoor notification appliances were installed in 2004. All strobes (EST & System Sensor) are synchronized, but all horns are independent.
Throughout the mall, you can find Edwards 881-D fire horns, but they are painted over and disconnected. They were installed in 1987 and 1988.
Initiating Devices
Pull Stations
The pull stations are mostly EST SIGA-270P addressable two-stage pull stations, installed in 2004. There are some that have been replaced with GE EST or current generation variants. By the Toys R Us and in it as well, as well as some other parts of the 1988 expansion, there are Edwards 270-GAO two-stage pull stations most likely installed in 1988 (although they do have the 1990s look). In the original wing however, remains one original Edwards 270-GAO that was installed in 1971 (classic E shield, no FIRE ALARM)! The Safeway has brand new Edwards 270-GAO, which replaced Grinnell-rebranded Notifier MPS-950KB two-stage pull stations in 2021. These were also on the EST3.
Automatic Detection Devices
The smoke detectors are EST SIGA-PS addressable photoelectric smoke detectors. Most are original to the EST3 from 2004, though there is one from 2012. In Urban Planet, there's a System Sensor C2W-BA i3 smoke detector, that is not powered up.
