Dr. Martha Cohen School is a junior high school in the Calgary Board of Education. It is located in New Brighton, in SE Calgary, and has a capacity of about 900 students. It was built in 2017, and the system is original. It is known for having one of the loudest fire alarm systems in the whole district.

System Specifications

FACP

The school is protected by an EST iO500 addressable fire alarm control panel. It is located in room #200 (second floor data room). This panel has had some issues in the past with false alarms, caused by a monitoring system error.

Annunciator

There is an EST RLCD-C LCD annunciator, as well as an EST RLED-24 LED annunciator, in the main entrance.

Notification Appliances

The notification appliances are from EST's "Genesis" line of products. The hallways have EST G1R-HDVM horn/strobes (red, wall mount, no FIRE), set on low volume, code 3. The classrooms have EST G1R-HD remote horns (red, wall mount, no FIRE). The bathrooms have EST G1R-VM remote strobes (red, wall, no FIRE), but the second floor men's restroom has a G1RF-VM (red, wall mount, FIRE lettering) remote strobe.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

Most pull stations are EST SIGA-270 Signature-series addressable single-action pull stations. These are located in the hallways and the main office. Due to the potential of false alarms or damage, the pull stations in the gymnasiums and wood shop have been replaced with Edwards MPSR1-SHTW hazardous-location pull stations, These are wired into EST SIGA-CT1 Signature-series monitor modules, as they are conventional.

Automatic Detection Devices

There are EST SIGA-PS smoke detectors located throughout the school.
