The University at Albany is a public research university with campuses in Albany, Rensselaer and Guilderland, NY. It was founded in 1844, is part of the State University of New York system, and enrolls over 17,900 students. The Uptown Campus in Albany is most known for being in weatherdan882002’s UAlbany fire alarm and fire drill videos. This page will cover the Physics building. The building was built in the early to mid-1960s, and the system was upgraded in 2001.

System Specifications (2001-present)

FACP

The building is protected by a Simplex 4120 addressable fire alarm system. The main panel is not visible, and is located in an electrical or mechanical room. It was installed in 2001, and is not networked to any of the other buildings on campus. The system runs Simplex’s MAPNET II addressable protocol, the system coding is temporal for all Simplex devices, and continuous for the exterior devices.

Annunciators

There is a Simplex 4603-9101 LCD annunciator at the entrance.

Notification Appliances

The notification appliances are mostly Simplex “TrueAlert” 4903-9417 (red, wall-mount, 15cd) horn/strobes. Depending on the area, there can be Simplex 4903-9418 horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, 75cd) or 4903-9419 (red, wall-mount, 110cd) horn/strobes, as the candela rating varies throughout. The bathrooms and in places where more visual coverage is needed contain Simplex “TrueAlert” 4903-9331 (red, wall-mount, 15cd) remote strobes, and some 4904-9332 (red, wall-mount, 75cd) and 4904-9333 (red, wall-mount, 110cd) remote strobes, depending on the area.

For outdoor notification, there are Wheelock MT-24-WM multi-tone weatherproof horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, 117cd), set to continuous horn. There appears to be no replacement horn/strobes outside.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

All pull stations are Simplex 4099-9001 single-action addressable pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices

All smoke detectors are Simplex 4098-9714 addressable photoelectric smoke detectors, mounted on 4098-9792 bases.
