The Fairmont Banff Springs aka Banff Springs Hotel is a luxury and historical hotel located at 405 Spray Ave, Banff, AB. The hotel was originally built in 1887, but was expanded in 1911. There was three more wings to be added, the Conference Center in 1991, and the Stanley Thompson Wing around 1999 which was renovated as Gatehouse in 2018. Most of the fire alarm system is from the 1988 renovation in the main building, and original in the Gatehouse. The conference center's system is original. Both systems are wired to trip each other when one goes into the alarm signal.

The main building has 9 floors, the top floor having some 2-story suites, and the Gatehouse wing has 5 floors, making it a "15 story hotel". The conference center only has 2 floors.

System Specifications (Gatehouse and Main Hotel) (1983/1997-present)

FACP

These wings are protected by a networked Simplex 4100ES conventional fire alarm system. The panels were installed in 2018, after renovations in the Vermilion Room, as well as the Gatehouse that year. There are about 12 nodes, and replaced a Simplex 4100+,most are installed in the former Simplex 4100+ cabinets. So far, a panel has been found by the Gatehouse entrance, and the main node is in a locked room.

The system is configured for two stage operation. The alert signal is a 20BPM chime, followed by slow whoop as the evacuation signal and most likely the default Simplex message, as noted by "Follow instructions given on the hotel speaker system". General alarm timer length is 5 minutes, and is noted in the guest directory; "This alarm will follow the pre-signal alarm".

The 4100ES was installed in 2018, replacing the 4100+ network installed in the 1999 expansion. The 4100+'s alarm pattern was a 20BPM chime as the alert signal, followed by a 120BPM march time chime for the evacuation signal.

Annunciators

There are Simplex 4603-9101 annunciators at a few front desks. These were installed in the late 90s and were kept on the 4100ES.
