8888 Country Hills Blvd NW aka Royal Oak Center is a shopping centre with many plazas. This one is for the units number 125-198. This plaza consists of a Sobeys, Ohana Care, PetValu, Williams Paints, Subway, Freshii and Royal Oak Clinic. It was built in 2003, and the fire alarm system was fully upgraded in 2017.

The building is protected by a Mircom FX-2000 addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the Sobeys main entrance vestibule. The system runs Mircom's CLIP addressable protocol, and the system coding is temporal.

Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]

All indoor notification appliances are System Sensor "SpectrAlert Advance" P2RA horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, set to 15cd). These are ceiling-mounted in Sobeys, and wall-mounted in the bakery of Sobeys and elsewhere.
For outdoor notification, there is a System Sensor SRKA weatherproof remote strobe (red, wall-mount) outside PetValu.

All pull stations are Mircom MS-401AD addressable single-action pull stations.

There are Mircom MIX-M500MA addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system’s tamper and flow switches.
There is a System Sensor MDL synchronization module for synchronizing the horns and strobes, added in 2023.

There are Mircom MP-300 end-of-line resistor plates on all sprinkler and signal circuits.

The building was protected by an EST QuickStart QS1 addressable fire alarm system. The panel was located in the Sobeys main entrance vestibule. The system ran EST's Signature addressable protocol, and the system coding was temporal.

Most notification appliances in Sobeys were EST "Genesis" GC-HDVM horn/strobes (white, ceiling-mount, no lettering, set to 30cd).
The other tenants and some areas in Sobeys had EST "Genesis" G1R-HDVM horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, no lettering, set to 15cd).

List of known activations[edit | edit source]

July 12, 2018 - alarm at around 10:54 AM, activated by a pull station in the Sobeys backroom after being hit by an object. Store was almost evacuated, cause found to be false as confirmed by manager and Calgary Fire Department. Alarm shut off after 20 minutes.
