First West Place is a low-rise office building located at 1501 1 Street SW, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The building is owned and operated by Boardwalk Residential, and houses the company’s head offices. The first floor contains a unit occupied by First West Law. The building was built in 1979, and the fire alarm system was partially upgraded in 2022 to add fire service to the elevator. Additionally, devices have been replaced as deficiencies occur.

FACP[edit | edit source]

The building is protected by a Kidde VS4 hybrid-addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located in the main lobby. The system runs Kidde’s GSA addressable protocol, and the system coding is continuous.

Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]

All notification appliances are Edwards “Durabel” 6100D vibrating bells (6” gong) unless otherwise noted.
Some areas have Mircom BL-6B motor bells (6” gong) as deficiency replacements.
First West Law has Mircom BL-6A motor bells (6” gong).
The main lobby and parkade have Edwards 439D-6AWC vibrating bells (6” gong).

Pull Stations[edit | edit source]

Most pull stations are Edwards 270-SPO conventional single-action pull stations.
Some areas have Mircom MS-401 conventional single-action pull stations as deficiency replacements.

Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]

There are System Sensor C2W-BA conventional photoelectric smoke detectors throughout all floors and at the top of each stairwell.
There are Kidde KI-PD addressable photoelectric smoke detectors in the elevator lobbies on each floor, mounted on Kidde KI-SB bases.
There are FDD CR-135 conventional 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise in most mechanical rooms and kitchens.
Some areas have System Sensor 5601A conventional 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors.
One kitchen has a Mircom TD-135 conventional 135°F fixed-temperature heat detector.
The boiler room has a Potter CF-135W conventional 135°F fixed-temperature heat detector.
The main floor kitchen has a Potter CR-135W conventional 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detector.
There is a System Sensor D2A conventional photoelectric duct detector on the 4th floor air duct.
