Rockyview General Hospital is a hospital located at 7007 14 St SW, Calgary, Alberta. The hospital is operated by Alberta Health Services. It consists of three buildings, Highwood, Fisher and the Holy Cross Ambulatory Care Centre, and spans 9 floors. The hospital originally opened in 1975, and was expanded three times: in 1995, 2004 and 2008. The current fire alarm system was installed in 2008, following the renovation.
System Specifications (2008-present)[edit | edit source]
FACP[edit | edit source]
The hospital is protected by an Edwards EST3 addressable fire alarm system. There are approximately 50 panels in the building, and all are located in electrical rooms. The system runs EST’s Signature addressable protocol, and is configured for two-stage operation. The system is also equipped with voice evacuation. The system does a 20BPM bell tone as the alert signal, followed by temporal for the evacuation signal.
Each alarm is followed by a “CODE RED” announcement, which is broadcast live by security.
FACP Accessories[edit | edit source]
There is an Edwards “FireWorks” graphic computer in the CACF room.
Annunciators[edit | edit source]
There are Edwards EST 3-LCDANN annunciators in every elevator lobby and at every nurses’ station.
Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]
All indoor notification appliances are Edwards 964-1A-8RW speakers (white, ceiling-mount, 8”, 70V). They appear to be original in each expansion. There are no strobes indoors.
For outdoor notification, there is an Edwards "Integrity" CS405-8A-T weatherproof remote strobe (red, wall-mount, 110cd) located outside the main entrance vestibule.
Initiating Devices[edit | edit source]
Pull Stations[edit | edit source]
All pull stations are EST SIGA-270P addressable dual-stage single-action pull stations.
Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]
There are EST SIGA-PS addressable photoelectric smoke detectors throughout the hospital.
Some areas have EST SIGA-HRS addressable 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors.
All detectors are mounted on a mix of EST SIGA-SB and SIGA-SB4 detector bases. There is also a sprinkler system with waterflow detection.
Modules[edit | edit source]
There are EST SIGA-CT1 addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system's tamper and flow switches.
EOLs[edit | edit source]
There are Edwards EOL-P1 end-of-line resistor plates on all sprinkler and signal circuits.
Bonus Information[edit | edit source]
The fire alarm panel also doubles as the general public address system, connected to the Nortel Meridian PBX. When paging is turned on, it will come from the fire alarm speakers. All speakers are fire alarm speakers.
