The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology is a technical college/trades school located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. This page will cover Building V, the industrial technical building, which also houses the radio studios. It was built in 1963, and the fire alarm system was upgraded around 1989, and finally in the 2000s.

System Specifications (2000s-present)[edit | edit source]

FACP[edit | edit source]

The building is protected by a Simplex 4100U addressable fire alarm system. The panel location is unknown. The system runs Simplex’s IDNet addressable protocol, and is equipped with voice-evacuation. The evacuation tone is slow whoop followed by a custom message.
The 4100U replaced a Simplex 4100+ around 2007, which in turn replaced a Simplex 2120 in 1996.

Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]

Most notification appliances are Simplex 2902-9314 speakers (8”, round, ceiling-mount, 25V), mounted on all upper floors.
The lower floors have Simplex “LifeAlarm” 2902-9711 speakers (red, re-entrant, surface mount). These are mounted on Atlas-Soundolier TVTA-R bidirectional mounts on the ceiling, with two speakers. The annex to U just has one speaker on the aforementioned mount.
Rooms with higher ambient noise levels have Simplex 2902-9711 speakers mounted on Simplex 4903-9101 strobe plates (red, 4.75cd, above speaker).
In the annexes, there are Simplex 4904-9101 remote strobes (red, wall-mount, 4.75cd) behind “FIRE - DO NOT ENTER” signs.

Initiating Devices[edit | edit source]

Pull Stations[edit | edit source]

All pull stations but one are Simplex 4099-9001 addressable single-action pull stations.
There is one Simplex 2099-9901 conventional single-action pull station in the lounge area leftover from the 1989 upgrade, wired to a Simplex 4090-9001 addressable monitor module.

Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]

There are Simplex 4098-9714 addressable photoelectric smoke detectors throughout, mounted on 4098-9792 bases.

Modules[edit | edit source]

There are Simplex 4090-9002 addressable relay modules for elevator recall and door magnets.

EOLs[edit | edit source]

There are Simplex 2081-9040C end of line resistor plates on all signal circuits.

Voice Evac Message Script[edit | edit source]

"May I have your attention please! May I have your attention please! There has been a fire alarm condition reported in the building. While this being verified, please leave the building by the nearest exit or exit stairway. Do not use the elevators."
