The Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium is a 2,500 seat concert venue located at 1415 14 Avenue NW, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The building is owned and operated by the Alberta Government, along with its twin, the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. The building was originally built in 1955, and has been renovated and expanded several times. The fire alarm system was most recently upgraded in 2011.

System Specifications (2011-present)[edit | edit source]

FACP[edit | edit source]

The building is protected by a Simplex 4120 networked fire alarm system. The system has 2 nodes, both are Simplex 4100U addressable panels. Node 1 is located in the basement maintenance storage room, and Node 2 is located behind the security desk. The system runs Simplex’s IDNet addressable protocol, and is configured for two-stage operation. The alert coding is 20BPM, and the alarm coding is temporal. Please see the below Sequence of Operation for more details.

Annunciators[edit | edit source]

There is a Simplex 4100 operators’ interface in the main entrance vestibule, equipped with an FUI display.

Booster Panels[edit | edit source]

There are several Simplex 4009 booster power supplies throughout the building.

Accessories[edit | edit source]

There is a Simplex 4190-9013 printer in the maintenance office.

Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]

All public areas have Wheelock MT-24MCW-FR horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, set to horn/various candelas).
Some air handling units have Simplex “TrueAlert” 4906-9127 horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, set to 15cd).
There are Simplex 4906-9105 weatherproof remote strobes (red, wall-mount) outside some air handling units, and there are Simplex 4906-9131 weatherproof horn/strobes (red, wall-mount) outside all other air handling units.
There is a System Sensor “SpectrAlert Advance” P4RA horn/strobe (red, wall-mount, set to 15cd) in the stage entrance vestibule as a deficiency replacement.
There is a Wheelock MTWP-2475W-FR weatherproof horn/strobe (red, wall-mount, 180cd, set to horn) outside the stage entrance.

Initiating Devices[edit | edit source]

Pull Stations[edit | edit source]

All pull stations are Simplex 4099-9004CA addressable two-stage single-action pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]

There are Simplex “TrueAlarm” 4098-9714 addressable photoelectric smoke detectors throughout most areas.
Some rooms have Simplex 4098-9733 addressable 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors.
All aforementioned detectors are mounted on Simplex 4098-9793 isolator bases.
There are Simplex 4098-9755 addressable photoelectric duct smoke detectors with 4098-9714 heads on all air handling units.
There are Potter CF-200W conventional 200°F fixed-temperature heat detectors in all air handling units, wired to Simplex 4090-9001 addressable monitor modules.

Modules[edit | edit source]

There are Simplex 4090-9001 addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system’s tamper and flow switches.
There are Simplex 4090-9002 addressable relay modules serving various purposes, including releasing a fire curtain, smoke exhaust, and fire dampers.
There are Simplex 4090-9116 addressable isolator modules on all SLCs.

EOLs[edit | edit source]

There are Simplex 2081-9040C end of line resistor plates on all conventional, sprinkler and signal circuits.

Sequence of Operation[edit | edit source]

When a first stage (alert) alarm is initiated, horn/strobes in most areas will activate the strobes, and all horns will remain silent. Horn/strobes in some (non-public) areas will sound in a 20BPM pattern. In a full evacuation (alarm) event, all strobes will flash, and all horns will sound in a temporal pattern.
