The Medicine Hat Regional Hospital is a hospital and health centre located at 555 5 Street SW, in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. The facility is owned and operated by Alberta Health Services. The facility was built in 1958, and was expanded in 1983, 1986 and 2016. The fire alarm system was most recently upgraded as part of the 2016 renovation, with the new system being commissioned in 2017.

System Specifications (2017-present)[edit | edit source]

FACP[edit | edit source]

The building is protected by a Simplex 4120 networked fire alarm system. All nodes are Simplex 4100ES addressable fire alarm panels. Known locations of nodes are the following:
-CACF Room by West Entrance
-Security Office
-Patient Services/Ambulatory Care
-Main Floor Service Elevator Lobby (Node 22)
The system runs Simplex’s IDNet addressable protocol, and is equipped with voice evacuation. The system is configured for two-stage operation, however the messages and/or tones are unknown at this time.

Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]

The pre-2016 areas have Simplex 2902-9316 remote speakers (white, ceiling-mount, 70V, 8” square).
Some pre-2016 areas have Simplex 4902-9721CA remote speakers (white, ceiling-mount, set to 70V) as deficiency replacements; these are also installed in the 2016 expansion for additional audible coverage.
Most 2016-expansion areas have Simplex “TrueAlert” 4906-9157 speaker/strobes (white, ceiling-mount, set to 70V/15cd).

Initiating Devices[edit | edit source]

Pull Stations[edit | edit source]

All pull stations are Simplex 4099-9004CA addressable two-stage single-action pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]

There are Simplex “TrueAlarm” 4098-9714 addressable photoelectric smoke detectors throughout most areas.
Some areas have Simplex 4098-9733 addressable 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors.
All aforementioned detectors are mounted on Simplex 4098-9792 bases.
There are Simplex 4098-9755 addressable photoelectric duct smoke detectors on all air handling units.

Modules[edit | edit source]

There are Simplex 4090-9001 addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system’s tamper and flow switches.
There are Simplex 4090-9002 addressable relay modules serving various purposes.
There are Simplex 4090-9116 addressable isolator modules on all SLCs.

EOLs[edit | edit source]

There are Simplex 2081-9040C end of line resistor plates on all sprinkler and signal circuits.

FACP[edit | edit source]

The building was protected by a Simplex 2120 conventional fire alarm system. This was a multiplex system with many nodes. The system was equipped with voice evacuation, and was configured for two-stage operation. The messages and/or tones were unknown.

Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]

All notification appliances were Simplex 2902-9316 remote speakers (white, ceiling-mount, 8” square).
These are still in use on the current system.

Initiating Devices[edit | edit source]

Pull Stations[edit | edit source]

All pull stations were Simplex 2099-9905 conventional two-stage single-action pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]

There were Simplex 2098-9635 conventional photoelectric smoke detectors throughout the building.
There were Simplex 4255-55 conventional heat detectors in some areas.
There were Simplex 2098-9648 duct detector housings with Simplex 2098-9635 conventional photoelectric smoke detector heads on all air handling units.

EOLs[edit | edit source]

There were Simplex 2081-9018C end of line resistor plates on all initiating and signaling circuits.
