Village Square Leisure Centre (also known as Pepsi Thunder) is an indoor leisure centre located at 2623 56 Street Northeast, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The facility is owned and operated by the City of Calgary. The facility has a large waterpark with a "Thunder Run" waterslide, a wave pool, dive tank, and splash area. The facility also has a fitness centre, several gymnasiums, two NHL-sized arenas, and a Calgary Public Library branch. The building opened in 1981, and was renovated in 2008. The fire alarm system was upgraded after the renovation, and again in May of 2023.

System Specifications (May 2023-present)[edit | edit source]

FACP[edit | edit source]

The building is protected by an Edwards EST4 addressable fire alarm system. The panel is located to the left of the main entrance, across from the customer service desk. The system runs Edwards' Signature addressable protocol, and is configured for two-stage operation. Alert signal coding is 20BPM, followed by temporal as the evacuation signal.

Annunciators[edit | edit source]

There is an Edwards EST4-4ANN annunciator at the rear mechanical area entrance.

Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]

Most notification appliances are Edwards 439D-10AWC vibrating bells (10" gong), mostly mounted behind metal grilles. Most are mounted remotely. There are two in the pool area.

The library Edwards "Genesis" G1R-VM remote strobes (red, wall-mount, no marking, set to 15cd) next to or under the bells, mostly mounted sideways.

There are a couple of newer (white label) Edwards 439D-10AWC vibrating bells (10" gong) installed as deficiency replacements.

Some areas have Edwards 439D-6AWC vibrating bells (6" gong).

All aforementioned notification appliances were installed in 2008.

The slide tower has Edwards MB6-24 motor bells (6" gong), installed as deficiency replacements in 2024.

Some areas have Mircom BL-10B motor bells (10" gong) as deficiency replacements.

Pull Stations[edit | edit source]

All pull stations are Edwards SIGA-270P addressable two-stage single-action pull stations. Most stations are mounted under STI "Stopper II" covers.

Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]

There are EST SIGA-PS addressable photoelectric smoke detectors at the top of most stairwells, in the main elevator lobby, and throughout the spiral staircase.

There are EST SIGA-HRS addressable 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors in some electrical and mechanical rooms.

There are 18 EST SIGA-DH duct detector housings with SIGA-PS addressable photoelectric smoke detector heads.

The service elevator lobbies on each floor have Edwards SIGA-OSD addressable optical smoke detectors.

All detectors are mounted on EST SIGA-SB bases.

There are EST SIGA-CT1 addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system's tamper and flow switches.

There are EST SIGA-CR addressable relay modules serving various purposes.

There are EST SIGA-IM isolator modules on all SLCs.

There are Edwards EOL-P1 end-of-line resistor plates on all sprinkler and signal circuits.

The building was protected by an EST QuickStart QS4 addressable fire alarm system. The panel was located next to the main entrance, across from the admissions desk. The system ran EST's Signature addressable protocol, and was configured for two-stage operation. The alert signal coding was 20BPM, followed by 120BPM march time for the evacuation signal.

The alert signal would sound for five minutes on a timer, before switching to the alarm signal.

There was an EST QSA-2-S cabinet with a QS4-CPU-1 and two SL30 cards in the rear mechanical area entrance.
