Cross Cancer Institute is Northern Alberta’s primary cancer centre, located at 11560 University Ave, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The centre is owned and operated by Alberta Health Services. The centre was built in 1968, and the fire alarm system was upgraded circa 2004.

System Specifications (2004-present)[edit | edit source]

FACP[edit | edit source]

The building is protected by a Simplex 4120 networked fire alarm system. All nodes are Simplex 4100U addressable fire alarm panels; the locations of which are unknown at this time. The system runs Simplex’s IDNet addressable protocol, is equipped with voice evacuation, and is configured for two-stage operation. The alert signal is a 20BPM chime, and the alarm signal is likely a 120BPM chime. Live “CODE RED” announcements are made by security in lieu of pre-recorded messages.

Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]

All notification appliances are Simplex 2902-9315 remote speakers (white, 8” round).

Initiating Devices[edit | edit source]

Pull Stations[edit | edit source]

All pull stations are Simplex 4099-9004CA addressable two-stage single-action pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]

There are Simplex “TrueAlarm” 4098-9714 addressable photoelectric smoke detectors throughout the building.
There are Simplex 4098-9733 addressable 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors in some areas.
All detectors are mounted on Simplex 4098-9792 bases.

Modules[edit | edit source]

There are Simplex 4090-9001 addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system’s tamper and flow switches.
There are Simplex 4090-9002 addressable relay modules serving various purposes.

Firefighter’s Telephones[edit | edit source]

There are Simplex 2084-9018 firefighter’s telephones on each floor.

EOLs[edit | edit source]

There are Simplex 2081-9040C end of line resistor plates on all sprinkler and signal circuits.
