Fantasyland Hotel is a luxury hotel located at 17700 87 Ave NW, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. It is located within West Edmonton Mall, and is known for its unique theme rooms. The hotel opened in 1986, and the fire alarm system is mostly original, with modifications happening in 1999 and 2006.

System Specifications (1986-present)[edit | edit source]

FACP[edit | edit source]

The hotel is protected by a Simplex 4120 networked fire alarm system. Both nodes are Simplex 4100U conventional panels, the main node is in the CACF room and the other is in the main entrance vestibule. It is part of the mall’s Simplex 4120 network, but operates separately. The system is equipped with the FUI displays, and equipped with voice-evacuation. The alert signal is a 20BPM chime over the speakers, and the alarm coding is continuous on the bells.
The 4100U panels replaced Simplex 4100+ panels in 2006, which in turn replaced the original Simplex 2120 panels in 1999.

Notification Appliances[edit | edit source]

Most notification appliances are Simplex 2901-9329 vibrating bells (10” gong).
The third floor pedway has Simplex 2901-9712 vibrating bells (10” gong).
The Beverly Hills ballroom has a total of six Simplex 2901-9329 bells and one Simplex 2901-9712.
There are Simplex 2901-9724 motor bells (10” gong) in the main lobby near the entrance, 2nd, 6th and 8th floor elevator lobbies as deficiency replacements.
There is a Mircom BL-10B motor bell (10” gong) on the stairwell to the 3rd floor as a deficiency replacement.
These bells activate for the alarm signal.

Voice Communication[edit | edit source]

There are Simplex 2902-9314 speakers (8”, round) for the first stage signal and voice communication.

Initiating Devices[edit | edit source]

Pull Stations[edit | edit source]

Most pull stations are either Simplex 4251-50/2099-9905 conventional break-glass two-stage pull stations.
There are two Simplex 2099-9925 conventional two-stage pull stations by the entrance.
There are Simplex 2099-9108C conventional break-glass two-stage pull stations on the 2nd and 3rd floor elevator lobbies as deficiency replacements.
Other deficiency replacement pull stations are Simplex 2099-9107C conventional two-stage pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices[edit | edit source]

There are Simplex “TrueAlarm” 4098-9601 conventional photoelectric smoke detectors throughout the hotel, mounted on Simplex 4098-9788 bases.
There are some System Sensor “i3” C2W-BA conventional photoelectric smoke detectors as deficiency replacements.

Firefighter’s Telephones[edit | edit source]

There are Simplex 2084-9017 firefighter’s telephones on each floor.

EOLs[edit | edit source]

There are a mix of Simplex 2081-9019C and 2081-9040C end-of-line resistor plates on all circuits.

Sequence of Operation[edit | edit source]

When a device is activated, the speakers will sound the alert signal. Live announcements are made by management during any alarm. After 30 minutes, if the system is not acknowledged, the hotel goes into evac, the bells will ring and Phase III and IV go into alert.
The hotel system will go into alert if Phase III or IV go into evac.
