South Health Campus is a 269-bed hospital located at 4448 Front St SE, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It consists of two towers, one for inpatient and one for outpatient, which are connected by the first floor. It is the newest hospital in Calgary, opened in 2013. The fire alarm system is mostly original; all fire alarm panels were fitted with upgrade kits in the early 2020s.

System Specifications

FACP

The building is protected by a Simplex 4120 networked fire alarm system. All nodes are Simplex 4100ES addressable fire alarm panels, upgraded from 4100U with 4100-7158 upgrade kits. There are at least 24 nodes on this system; nodes 1 and 2 are located in the main CACF room by the outpatient elevator lobby on the main floor, and all other nodes are located in telecom and electrical rooms throughout the facility. The system runs Simplex's IDNet addressable initiating and TrueNAC addressable signaling protocols, is configured for two-stage operation, and is equipped with voice evacuation. The alert signal is a 20BPM chime, and the alarm signal is a temporal chime. AHS Public Safety makes live "CODE RED" announcements for each stage.

Annunciators

There are numerous Simplex 4100 operator interfaces located throughout the facility.

Accessories

There is a Simplex TrueSite workstation in the main CACF room.

Notification Appliances

Most notification appliances are Simplex "TrueAlert" 4906-9257 addressable speaker/strobes (white, ceiling-mount, set to 70V/15cd).
Additionally, many areas have Simplex 4906-9253 addressable speaker/strobes (white, wall-mount, set to 70V/15cd).
There are Simplex 4902-9717CA remote speakers (white, wall-mount) and Simplex 4902-9721CA remote speakers (white, ceiling-mount) in many areas for additional audible coverage.
Many non-public areas have Simplex 4906-9251 addressable speaker/strobes (red, wall-mount, set to 70V/15cd).
The suppression systems have Simplex 4906-9227 addressable horn/strobes (red, wall-mount, set to 15cd) and Simplex 4906-9201 addressable remote strobes (red, wall-mount, set to 15cd), which are controlled by the main system but operate separately.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

All pull stations are Simplex 4099-9004CA addressable two-stage single-action pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices

There are Simplex 4098-9714 addressable photoelectric smoke detectors throughout the building.
Some areas have Simplex 4098-9733 addressable 135°F fixed-temperature/rate-of-rise heat detectors.
Some areas have Simplex 4098-9754 addressable multisensor detectors.
All aforementioned detectors are mounted on Simplex 4098-9792 bases.
There are Simplex 4098-9755 addressable photoelectric duct smoke detectors on all air handling units.

Modules

There are Simplex 4090-9001 addressable monitor modules supervising the generator run/trouble contacts, special hazard systems, kitchen suppression systems, and the sprinkler system's tamper and flow switches.

There are Simplex 4090-9002 addressable relay modules serving various purposes.

There are Simplex 4090-9116 isolator modules on each SLC.

Firefighter's Telephones

There are Simplex 2084-9103-C firefighter's telephones at each stairwell on each floor.

EOLs

There are Simplex 2081-9040C end-of-line resistor plates on all circuits supervised by monitor modules, and all speaker circuits.
