Fish Creek Recreation Complex is a large recreation complex located at 333 Shawville Blvd SE, Calgary, AB. It consists of Cardel Rec South, the Shawnessy Library, Bishop O'Byrne High School, and the Shawnessy YMCA. The facility was built in 2000, opened in 2002, and was expanded in 2012. The fire alarm system was upgraded in 2025. Fire Alarmpedia staff attempted to salvage the old system but were denied.

System Specifications

FACP

The building is protected by an Edwards EST4 addressable fire alarm system. This is a networked system with several nodes; one node is located by the loading dock. The system runs Edwards' Signature addressable protocol, and is configured for two-stage operation. The alert signal coding is 20BPM, and the alarm signal coding is temporal.

Annunciators

There are Edwards EST4-LCDANN annunciators at each entrance.

Notification Appliances

2002 Portion

Unless otherwise mentioned, all notification appliances are Cerberus Pyrotronics MBDC-10 motor bells (10" gong) mounted on Wheelock RSSP-2475W strobe plates (75cd).

The following devices are installed as deficiency replacements:

  • Siemens ST-MC-RETRO-R-B strobe plate (set to 15cd) with original bell in one hallway
  • Siemens SFM24-10A motor bell (10" gong) on Wheelock RSSP-24MCW (set to 15cd) in the same hallway
  • Mircom BL-10B motor bell (10" gong) on original strobe plate by child care entrance
  • Siemens SFM24-10A motor bell (10" gong) on Siemens ST-MC-RETRO-R-B strobe plate (set to 15cd) by gym
  • Potter MBA-10-24 motor bell (10" gong) on Siemens ST-MC-RETRO-R-B (set to 15cd) by gym and in Arena 2
  • Siemens SFM24-10A motor bell (10" gong) on original strobe plate on South wall of Arena 1
  • Simplex 2901-9724 motor bell (10" gong) on original strobe plate in Northwest corner of arena 1.

For outdoor notification, there is a Cerberus Pyrotronics MBDC-10 motor bell (10" gong) outside the high school entrance.

2012 Expansion

All notification appliances are Siemens SSM24-6A motor bells (6" gong) mounted on Siemens ST-MC-RETRO-R-B strobe plates (set to 15cd).

For outdoor notification, there is a Siemens ST-75-R-WP-B weatherproof remote strobe (red, wall-mount, 30/180cd).

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

All pull stations are Edwards SIGA-270P addressable two-stage single-action pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices

There are Edwards SIGA-OSD addressable optical smoke detectors in some areas, mounted on Edwards SIGA-SB bases.

Modules

There are EST SIGA-CT1 addressable monitor modules supervising the sprinkler system's tamper and flow switches.

There are EST SIGA-CR addressable relay modules serving various purposes.

There are EST SIGA-IM addressable isolator modules on all SLCs.

EOLs

There are Edwards EOL-P1 end of line resistor plates on all sprinkler and signal circuits.

Former System Specifications (2000/2012-2025)

FACP

The building was protected by a Siemens FireFinder XLS addressable fire alarm system. The panel was located in the main electrical room, directly across from the women's pool locker room. The system ran Siemens' FirePrint addressable protocol, and was configured for two-stage operation. The alert coding was 20BPM, and the alarm coding was temporal.

The FireFinder XLS replaced the original Cerberus Pyrotronics MXL in 2012.

Annunciators

There were Siemens SSD annunciators at every entrance.
