The Olympic Oval is a multipurpose ice arena best known for speed skating. It gets its name from its original purpose, which was to host the 1988 Winter Olympics. It is located on the campus of the University of Calgary, and has a speed skating track, along with 2 enclosed hockey surfaces. It was built in and opened in 1987, and was the first covered speed skating track in North America. Most of the system is original, except for the fire panel and the strobes installed later. The system is very similar to Kinesiology B.

System Specifications

FACP

The facility is protected by a Simplex 4100U addressable fire alarm control panel. It was installed around 2001-2010, and likely replaced the original Simplex 2120. It has voice evac capabilities, and likely does slow whoop and the default male message. Although the system is addressable, the system is not really set up in an addressable manner.

Notification Appliances

The main notification appliances are the original Simplex "LifeAlarm" 2902-9734 flush-mount speakers. The second level has Wheelock RSS-24MCW (red, wall) remote strobes for visual coverage as well as the Simplex speakers, installed when the 4100U was installed.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

The pull stations seen so far are all Simplex 4251-20 single-action, T-bar pull stations, which are original.

Automatic Detection Devices

None noticed.

Bonus Information

The Olympic Oval uses Simplex 2901-9834 (beige) mechanical horns as door alarms. They are original, but are NOT connected to the fire alarm system.
