‘’’’Gander Mall’’’’ is the largest shopping mall in the town of Gander, Newfoundland. This mall has a very similar design to the Lewisporte Mall, and the fire alarm system is fairly similar too. It contains several anchor stores including Sportchek and Canadian Tire. It was built in the 1980s, and most of the system is original.

System Specifications

FACP

The building is protected by an EST Quickstart QS4 conventional fire alarm system. The panel is located at one of the entrances, and was installed in about 2006. This panel likely replaced a Pyrotronics System 3. This panel has several EST ZB16-4 zone cards in it to allow it to communicate with conventional devices. When in alarm, the system likely does code 3.

Notification Appliances

All notification appliances are Faraday 3560 vibrating bells (10” gong). These are undoubtedly original.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

Most pull stations are Pyrotronics/Pyr-A-Larm MS-51B conventional pull stations. Some of these have failed over time, and were replaced with Edwards 270-SPO conventional “teardrop” pull stations.

Automatic Detection Devices

None noticed.
