‘’’Toronto Pearson International Airport’’’ is the largest airport in Canada. It is located in Mississauga, Ontario, and it serves the city of Toronto, along with most of Southern Ontario. Terminal 1 was built in 2003, but the fire alarm system was replaced in 2021.

System Specifications

FACP

The airport is protected by a Simplex 4100ES addressable fire alarm system. The panel locations are unknown. The system runs Simplex’s IDNet addressable protocol, is two-stage, and likely does code 3 and a custom message in alarm.

Notification Appliances

The main notification appliances are Simplex “TrueAlert” 4906-9103 remote strobes (white, wall-mount), likely set to 75 candela. Areas with lower ceilings have Simplex “TrueAlert” 4906-9104 remote strobes (white, ceiling-mount), likely set to 75 candela. Some of the strobes have bilingual lettering on them. The restrooms and some other areas have Siemens SET-CW speakers (white, ceiling-mount). In the main terminal, the audio for the system goes through the PA system. The PA speakers are Enforcers.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

All pull stations are Simplex 4099-9008CAB IDNet addressable two-stage single-action pull stations. These have a MagLock button, and have an additional set of normally closed contacts.

Automatic Detection Devices

There are Simplex 4098-9714 IDNet addressable photoelectric smoke detectors throughout the facility.

System Specifications (former system)

FACP

The airport was protected by a Siemens MXLV addressable fire alarm system. The panel locations are unknown, but the size and age of the terminal suggest it was an MXLV. This system was replaced in 2021.

Notification Appliances

There were Siemens CU-MCS bilingual strobes throughout the terminal. The restrooms had Siemens SET-CW speakers (white, 70V). These speakers are still in use on the Simplex system. In the main terminal, the audio for the system went through the Enforcer PA speakers.

Initiating Devices

Pull Stations

All pull stations were Siemens MSi-30BC addressable two-stage single-action pull stations. Most of these were replaced during the upgrade, but some can still be found in the gate hallways, however they are likely decommissioned.

Automatic Detection Devices

There were Siemens FirePrint FP11 multisensor smoke/heat detectors throughout the terminal. All were replaced due to not being compatible with the new Simplex system.
