FACP: Notifier NFS-320C System Type: Addressable (Networked) System Line Voltage: 120VAC NAC Voltage: 24VDC Date of last known Upgrade: 2011 Year Opened: 1964, 2000, 2009, 2011 |
510 77 Ave SE is a large single floor multi-use building in Fairview, SE Calgary. It was built in 1964, though the system is not original. This building has the Calgary Farmers' Market, Third Academy (a school), The Athlete Factory and The Shooting Edge, all with different notification appliances, but on the same system. The system is serviced by Viking Fire Protection Inc.
System Specifications (2011-present)
FACP
The building is protected by a Notifier NotiFireNet networked fire alarm system. There are two panels on this network, and both are Notifier NFS-320C. There is an NCA-2 network control annunciator mounted next to the main panel. The two panels were installed in 2011 when the Calgary Farmers' Market was moved into this building. There are Notifier LCD-80 annunciators at all entrances to the farmers' market, but the panels are not visible. One is in the west electrical room right next to the main entrance, and the other is located in The Athlete Factory's back exit.
Notification Appliances
The notification appliances vary per outlet. The Calgary Farmer's Market has System Sensor "SpectrAlert Advance" P2RA (red, wall) and PC2WA (white, ceiling) horn/strobes installed in 2011. The Shooting Edge has System Sensor "SpectrAlert" P1224MCA horn/strobes, installed in 2000. Third Academy, however, has Mircom FHS-240R horn/strobes. For outdoor notification, there is a System Sensor P2RKA (red, wall) weatherproof horn/strobe. When the system goes into alarm, all horns do code-3, and the Mircom horn/strobes are set to the electromechanical tone. The System Sensor alarms are synchronized with each other, while the Mircom horn/strobes are also synchronized, but independent from the System Sensor, which means that the two brands have their own sync modules.
Initiating Devices
Pull Stations
The pull stations in the farmers' market are Notifier NBG-12LX, installed in 2011. The Shooting Edge has a mix of Notifier MPS-950B and NFM-950B pull stations. Third Academy, however, has Tyco/Grinnell MS-401.
Automatic Detection Devices
There are Notifier FSP-851 smoke detectors in the farmer's market. The building is also protected by a sprinkler system with waterflow detection, so other areas do not have detectors.
Known Activations
In December 2021, the fire alarm system went off. A pull station was accidentally struck by a Farmers' Market employee. The system worked like it was supposed to, and no charges were pressed against the employee.
At 12:38PM on January 10th, 2022, the fire alarm system was activated again. The culprit of the alarm was found to be a waterflow switch in The Shooting Edge. There was work being done on the water mains, and the fluctuation in pressure caused the flow switch to activate.
Bonus Information
There are two Potter H-1224R horns in Third Academy for a mock fire alarm system, only used for fire drills. However, they are not part of the Notifier system, and are on a 24VDC power supply and a light switch. They are set to march time broadband. It is unknown why they did not set up a drill switch on the NFS-320C to only sound the Mircom horn/strobes.
